Upon recently installing an Nvidia GT 1030 Graphics Card, I installed 472.12 and 474.66 with no issues irrespective of having to install with ‘Administrator Privilege’. (About 2 weeks ago).

Upon trying to upload the latest security driver from Nvidia, the 474.89 version would ‘not install’. The message was ‘Signing Certificates Not Installed’, most likely from Microsoft to Kill Off Windows 7, IMPO. Picture enclosed.

I contacted Nvidia and established a ticket. They're looking into it as I sent my system information accompanied by a screen shot of the image of "not signed'. Can any provide any explanation here? All replies are appreciated.

I'm "not"  disabling Driver Signature Enforcement . I believe Windows 7 has reached the end of the security driver updates for the (Nvidia GT 1030). Thanks very much for your assistance.

I have spoken with Nvidia and this is the most likely cause. I have now disabled further updates as they would be of no use. Nothing wrong with the system files as I scanned the sfc scannow in the command prompt.

* And, Microsoft is supposed to support the Security Updates until September 24, 2024 (Nvidia) which they're 'not doing'. It only stands to reason that Microsoft is not signing the certificates.

If you disable it you can install it.

Maybe, but I'm not doing it. * What are the implications and would there really be any benefit to the security update where there is 'no' support anyway?

Not in this case you're already not secure to begin with.

Just get the drivers from nvidia.com

I did. They would not install after downloading, 'See Pic' in Post #1. Drivers would not even download or 'install' from desktop Nvidia update. I've now disabled updates.

FWIW

I downloaded the driver from the link above. It was the correct driver for the Windows 7 x64 and for this particular card from the Nvidia web site.

I then extracted the files of that downloaded installer using 7Zip into a separate folder. (extracted not opened)

Opened the Properties of the 'setup.exe'.

Both the Nvidia and Microsoft certificates are shown (dated from '2021).

Looking very OK and legit.

My guess it has nothing to do with the actual  installer, but with Windows 7 itself. IRC there was some driver protection feature built into Windows 7 and this installer may not be included or seen as legitimate by this Windows OS since it is dated after Windows support date  which was Jan 2020.

So what happens if you try the installing a driver dated from before Jan 2020 - does this then work or make any difference and still fail?

Alternatively I would try to add the installer's certificates into Windows 7 Certificate cache or Store.

Then the installer should work as wanted or expected.

Hopefully.

Open the Properties of the official Nvidia installer file or alternatively use the setup.exe (as I did above but this is the longer method and is more complex and can fail if done incorrectly), open the Digital Signature tab, select one of the certs, click the Details radio button, next click the Digital Certificate Details radio button, open View Certificate, click the 'Install Certificate...' radio button, and the Window's import wizard should now appear and continue forward and install this certificate into the Windows.

Now repeat this method for the second certificate.

Then try to use the driver installer.

Hopefully it now works.

Using certmgr into the command will bring up the proper window for the Certificate Manager. Certificates can be imported (as well as looking at all the installed certs) into Windows if you have the correct certificate as for example  a .crl file (import under right click of the folder tree under All Tasks).

The certificate(s) can be extracted from the setup.exe using 7Zip and if needed then rename the CERTIFICATE (this file can be opened and viewed with notepad) file to something like user.crl

Often in other installers from different installers  these extracted certificates will appear with the correct corresponding name with the correct file extension - it all depends on the actual source of the certs and the installer being used.

But this is the long method.

The first suggestion is the shortest and always works.

Added: Come to now think of it, I haven't had to mess around with certificates since my Windows 7 days.

Windows 8, 10 and 11 seems to have a larger or better repository of certs.

*Well, I very much appreciate the outstanding support. The process you directed me to brought me closer as to run the Nvidia installer, yet the security update would not install. (See Pic(s) Attached).

Perhaps updating the OS's Root Certificates would help to remedy this problem.

See here to follow this (Windows 7 is listed):  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/support-for-urgent-trusted-root-updates-for-windows-root-certificate-program-in-windows-a4ac4d6c-7c62-3b6e-dfd2-377982bf3ea5

Then perhaps reboot after the install, just to be on the cautious side.

Please delete the Window's Temporary files, using the Windows Disk Cleaner, before attempting another Nvidia install. There could be corrupted installer files that could prevent a newer installation attempt.

Another thought.

If this card was bought used or from a relatively unknown seller, then this exact card could actually be another card in disguise and could be considered a fake.

Lets first see if this card is in fact a GT 1030 by verifying it with some software.

Download this and run it (yes this is a very safe site and so is this software):  https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Does GPU-Z say it's a real GT 1030 model? Does the GPU-Z indicate the correct  corresponding details about this card and match properly as described by the vendor and the card's details such a AIB partner (manufacturer), amount of memory, and so forth?

(This card if it is not genuine then this may be the reason why the installer could not find a 'compatible graphics hardware').

Plus there is an automatic Nvidia driver search on the Nvidia web site using Smart Scan.

https://www.nvidia.com/download/ScannForce.aspx?lang=en-us

This maybe helps you.

This site does not work for me as it requires Internet Explorer (the site probably relies on ActiveX to work properly) and the site is only functional with older OS's such as Windows 7 and older. Does not work with the Windows 11 that I am using ATM. Furthermore I don't use Nvidia anymore.
