I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, but I have an Asus X99-E WS motherboard and I just got a new Antec P101 Case (because it can hold 8 HDD's) and the sata ports on the motherboard are too close to the hard drive caddy's. Is it possible to get sata cables with smaller connectors? Or am I totally screwed? Here's some pictures for clarification

Hi, Welcome to BC.

Totally Screwed.

IMHO, Get longer cables by the looks of it then can tuck the lengths in,  Stick all the cables in regardless of if going to use them.  Once done is done.

That's the thing, the connectors don't even fit in that space.

Would you be able to get by by using SATA cables with right angle connectors. They come in both RH and LH connectors. This would determine if you want the cable pointing up or down.

See this post

Edit: The problem being is even if the right angle cables worked you would not be able to use all 8 sata ports, 4 at the most in that one group.

I think I found a solution for the sata cables but why wouldn't I be able to use all 8 sata ports?

In the group that has 8 ports, 4 over 4, you could not use two right angle connectors unless you could get a RH and LH to work where one connector pointed up and the other pointed down or you have one right angle connector over a straight connector. You couldn't have two right hand connectors pointing in the same direction as the ports are too close together. Page 1-27 of the manual.

Were you able to find a way to use straight connectors?

Yes, nice find desertitguy! :thumbup2:

One may wonder why the motherboard designer didn't think of putting vertical plugs in the first place. facepalm-40x40.gif

It comes down to easier cable management through the back of the case.

Just a quick update: been using the system for a week now and it's working great. We'll see how these things hold up over the next few years. But, all in all, those adapters did the trick perfectly. If you guys are every in my situation, I would definitely recommend those 90 degree adapters. Here's what the final product looks like
