Last week, Microsoft announced that the popular text editor Notepad would be updateable through the Microsoft Store with Windows 10 20H1, which is a major update for the operating system arriving early next year.
This would be a massive change as it will finally Microsoft to update Notepad without releasing a new version of Windows 10, ultimately enabling more frequent updates.
“This will allow us the flexibility to respond to issues and feedback outside the bounds of Windows releases,” Microsoft noted in a blog post. According to the announcement, the feedback for the Notepad's future can be submitted in the Feedback Hub under Apps > Notepad.
A few days after Microsoft announced the move, the Notepad app has just arrived in the Windows Store.
“Notepad has been the fast and simple text editor on Windows for over 30 years, and now it’s available in the Microsoft Store! View, edit, and search through plain text documents and source code files instantly,” the store description reads.
The Store listing, which can be accessed from here, shows the minimum required Windows 10 version as Build 14393, but it doesn't work on any version of Windows older than 20H1 Build 18963.
Going forward, the possibilities of new functionalities for the Notepad app will be almost endless and more details will be announced in future. The store version of Notepad should become available to everyone with the release of Windows 10 20H1 in the Spring of 2020.
