I've been running Chrome for twelve years as 'end of support' has been scheduled for January 2023 with no further updates.

1.) Can I continue to use Chrome in Windows 7 without the updates being installed?

2.) If so, will there be any detriment in doing so?

Naturally, there are a few browsers that will support Windows, namely Mozilla Firefox. Should I switch browsers or continue with Chrome 'without' the updates? I do not like Windows 10 as I uninstalled within five minutes. Google stated that end of support would take place in 2022. However, Google continued with updates. There is absolutely nothing installed with windows 10, such as Movie maker. Sure, one can add on many applications, yet they are more than a task. All replies are welcome and appreciated.

Yeah but they may not support then.

There has been no mention, none of Mozilla stopping support for Windows 7. In fact, It may be a beneficial for Mozilla in terms of revenue; my take. I know nothing of Linux and do not care to install. As far as Windows 10, "Forget about it". Google will play the same game there, only to gather the dimwitted. No thanks. Anyway, Thank you very much for the support. A new generation which I dislike.

Linux is very painless and easy to use.

If you do try it, then I suggest Mint Cinnamon it's windows 7 like.

I now nothing of Mint Cinnamon. However, I looked into it a briefly. I'm at the crossroads, yet to decide. * If I continued to use Google Chrome without receiving any further updates, would I still be safe? In other words, irrespective of 'alleged' patches and fixes from Chrome, would I still be able to operate Chrome? I've read many white papers relating to that aspect, and many state that updates from Chrome only revert back to older 'algorithims'. Whether this is true is unknown to me. Word has it that many browsers operate in this way. Another issue which may be adjoined to the Chrome browser is Internet Explorer which is essential with the Windows 7 operating system. How will the discontinuation of Chrome in Windows 7 affect any applications necessary and/or required? Finally, MSE is also discontinuing support in 2023 (another problem). I very much appreciate the courtesy and support you have provided. if you have time, you may address the above.

Firefox support for Windows 7 will likely end in 2023

Chrome and Internet Explorer are completely separate browsers. Chrome uses Microsoft Certificate Stores for SSL Certificates, and when they are no longer updated it will impact SSL/TLS in Chrome.

Chrome on linux will be updated continuously.

@ Synoptic12 - If you use your computer for shopping, banking, interactions with governments, etc. you may, at some point, find you are no longer able to access these kind of services using old systems and browsers.

How will the certificates 'no longer' being updated affect the browser?

You state "may" affect at some point. However, there is no supporting evidence of that fact. Naturally, I use my PC for all of the points you refer to. Thank you very much for the details. I'm just trying to keep Windows 7, rather than installing 10. There is simply nothing loaded with 10. I use movie maker much or have need of that at times. I care not for extensions or add-ons.
