Running chkdsk and using the options  /r or /f  or both?

Time is not an issue. My hard drive has crashed before and ran both and now 3 months later has crashed again.

HP laptop and runs great normally.

 

Are these options do the same,reading on the /r and /f seem confusing.

chkdsk /r includes /f

 

/r switch attempts to repair sectors and marks those bad that cannot be repaired.

What is the manufacturer of the drive? Drive manufacturers have software to check your drive.
