Hi everyone,

I'm at my wit's end trying to install Windows 7 on my Alienware X17 R2 and could really use some expert advice. I've attempted the installation several times now, but every time it gets stuck at the same point: "ACPI on BIOS is not fully compliant."

I've tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this issue:

Downloaded a fresh ISO image of Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit versions both)
Used bootable USB drive
Disabled secure boot and fast boot in BIOS
Formatted the hard drive with various partitioning schemes (GPT and MBR)

Nothing seems to work! I'm starting to think it might be a hardware issue, but I'm hoping someone here has encountered this problem before and can offer some guidance.

Additional Info:

My X17 R2 has an 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H processor and a Chipset Intel Alder Lake-P PCH.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on nvME.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm desperate to get Windows 7 running on this machine.

Hi,

I don't think the 12th Gen Intel Processor and Chipset Intel Alder Lake-P supports Windows 7!

Windows 7 is far to old if you need it then use it in a VM.

In addition to what cryptodan said. Windows 7 will not detect NVMe unless patches are slipped into the iso file.

Modern hardware (BIOS, CPU, etc) and Windows 7 are not compatible with each other.

I completely understand your frustration! Trying to install an older operating system on modern hardware can be a real headache. While I admire your dedication to Windows 7, it's important to note that Alienware X17 R2 laptops are not officially compatible with Windows 7. This is because modern hardware components and drivers lack support for the older OS.
