BleepingComputer Review:

ERUNT, or The Emergency Recovery Utility NT, is a utility that can be used to backup and restore the Windows Registry.  This tool has the ability to do a complete backup and restore of the Windows Registry, including the security hive so that permissions are properly backed up and restored.

One of the problems with the Registry is that the tools provided by Windows do not do an adequate job in backing it up. Regedit, for example, does not export the entire Registry, such as the security hive which includes the permissions on the various values and keys. Also if you attempt to restore a backup made from Regedit it will instead combine your backup with any entries made since it was backed up. This leaves your Registry a confused mess that is bound to cause issues.

The other tool that backs up your Registry is System Restore.  Though this tool is leaps and bounds more useful than Regedit for backing and restore, it is still vulnerable to malware that may disable System Restore and thus delete all your restore points.

Therefore, if you want a utility that can backup and restore the entire Windows Registry, then ERUNT is a great tool to use.  Not only can it be used directly within Windows, but it can also be used from the Windows Recovery Environment in the event that you are not able to boot Windows.  The backups can also be saved to a remote drive or external drive so that they are easily accessible.

This program is offered as two downloads. The main download is a installer version that will install ERUNT onto your computer for you.  The ZIP version does not include an installer and allows you to place the ERUNT files where you wish.  Regardless of the version you use, please read the README.TXT for more information on how to use the program.
