I keep getting BSOD while playing COD. About every other game, the game crashes and I have to scan and repair before it will launch again. On top of that, I keep getting BDOS on some of those game crashes. My pc is roughly 5 years old with a Ryzen 7 3800, GeForce RTX 2060, 1000W gold EVGA PS, 64x running windows 10.

See the below and then post the requested info in this thread.

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

No crash dmps have been attached.

First thing noted was the lack of any system drivers having been installed, see my canned info below for as to why this is important.

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer ** or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The reason why this procedure is so important, the chipset is what enables the MB to be able to communicate with all the hardware + they are the first drivers that Windows looks for on boot.

Good PSU but you having different spec monitors will cause issues.

So my understanding, is I need to do a clean windows install first, then the chipset drivers and others listed?

Hi, I would also update your Bios as you are running : Version: H.40   Date:   11/6/2019  which does not exist.

It is not on your Motherboard Support Page.  Must be running another boards BIOS.  As there is a H3 and a H5 but no H4.

Current Version is : HJ   Date : 2023-10-19   https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X470-GAMING-PLUS-MAX/support

So in answer to a Clean install it Would be YES.    See video How to on the Support Page.  Your Drivers are there also.  Lots of reboots.

I'd really want to see the dump and other troubleshooting files from the BSOD Posting Instructions. However, from that one dump I would suggest that you test your RAM before you do anything else...

  • Download Memtest86 (free), use the imageUSB.exe tool extracted from the download to make a bootable USB drive containing Memtest86 (1GB is plenty big enough). Do this on a different PC if you can, because you can't fully trust yours at the moment.
  • Then boot that USB drive on your PC, Memtest86 will start running as soon as it boots.
  • If no errors have been found after the four iterations of the 13 different tests that the free version does, then restart Memtest86 and do another four iterations. Even a single bit error is a failure.
