No sound after computer wakes from sleep

Lately, when I wake my computer from sleep, I have no audio and have to reboot the machine to get sound back. Any fix or this issue? Thank you..

Hi, you used the Quota All box.   Please do not use that as it changes the formatting of the text.  as can see.  It is also smaller and is green.

 

Never use it please, use the Quote Tool in the Menu above if need to quote something to draw attention to it.

Due to the age of the System which is 15 yrs old, and 1st Bios was 2011 this system can not handle what you are trying to do.  The OS is corrupted the Drivers are to old, the chip can not due modern things.

This system should have gone to Linux Years ago.

OK, might be questions about different systems but a 15 year old PC is going to be a lot happier on Linux than it is on Windows. I'd go for as light a distro as possible.

Linux can be as happy as it wants to be on someone's system. I just have no desire to use Linux and don't want it on my system. I use programs that are not compatible with Linux, so the whole "Switch to Linux" as some type of solution that I didn't ask for is really irrelevant. I was just curious what might be causing the sound to all of a sudden stop working after the computer wakes from sleep. I never asked about switching to Linux. You guys are coming off like Jehovah's witness's.. I'll call you Linux Witnesses 

Well sorry that you did not like the linux suggestion. It's a good way to keep really old machines like yours at least usable.

 

If you prefer Windows, which I fully understand, then my only other suggestions are new machine or live with the odd quirk or disable the machine from going to sleep at all.

Well thanks, but despite it being old, it's usable for what I need to use it for. I've never had any problems with it except for this new development with the sound. If there's no fix for that, I'll just live with it until I do a new build.

Well, maybe some of that old hardware is finally failing, such as the sound card???

Old computer parts & electronics work OK......until they don't.

As in your other topics, you seek help with very old computers but seem dissatisfied when we cannot provide the answers you seek. Alas, we're not magicians. There comes a point when it's time to move on from obsolete hardware, software & OSs, in the interest of performance, security, etc.

I hope you find workable solutions to your computing iisues.

Regarding the problem you want help with, I see from your Speccy report that you're using a "Sound Blaster Play! 3" USB audio device. Is that the default audio device? If it is then check in Device Manage for any setting that may cause it to sleep as well. You could also consider disconnecting the USB soundcard and connect your speakers to the back of the motherboard.

 

If the motherboard's onboard audio is the default device then make sure it has the latest available Realtek drivers.

I wasn't dissatisfied that you couldn't provide the answers I was seeking. Sometimes posting on a forum yields answers, sometimes it doesn't. What I was dissatisfied about was being told to just put Linux on the machine as I didn't ask anything about Linux, or wanting to use Linux.

 

As to the onboard sound, it never worked from the day the MB was new as I can recall. That is the reason I'm using the USB sound. When I look at the properties, the only thing I see that may have something to do with the issue is under the Events tab

 

Well, I must be missing something.
If the hardware hasn't worked properly for 15 years "from the day the MB was new", then I doubt we can resolve the problem here today. :-(

To elaborate, after building the computer in 2013, and discovering the glitchy sound on the mainboard, I opted not to return the board as it was a hassle to take it all apart again IMO. so I just added a sound card to it at the time. It's ok, thank you for taking a look at it anyways.

If you are using a USB sound adapter then it seems your USB ports are turning off on sleep and not awakening. The below link is for Windows 11 but the same holds for Windows 10. Not sure if it will work but give it a go.
