Hello guys,

Brave Browser > Dell Optiplex 7050 >W10.

I turned on this PC , and inserted my USb documents folder.

I absent- mindedly hit Enter and realised my mistake when my Desktop did not appear.

Seems PC tried to Boot from the USB.

The PC is backed up to OneDrive.

Can you suggest best solution, please?

Thank you.

If you reboot, without the USB does your desktop appear?

Checked the cables? Did it work before? Anything you changed recently?

This is most likely a coincidence caused by something else and this for two reasons,  your document folder is not bootable so the PC would not attempt to boot from it + removing the USB device and restarting the PC the BIOS would go straight to where it normally finds a bootable OS, this suggests one of two things, the boot order had been changed or the boot drive has failed either physically or by the OS on it becoming corrupt.

Have you checked the BIOS to see ( A ) what the boot sequence is set as and ( B ) to see if the boot drive is listed in the BIOS at all.

What was said above. On a Dell it's normally required to press F2 during bootup. Keep pressing it repeatedly as soon as you turn the PC on.

Hi.

Thank you.

It was a very wrong assumption on my part.

PC was working fine before.

It so happened that, at the moment I hit the Enter key an item fell onto the monitor cable.

So, I thought the USB caused the Blank Screen.

After reading your responses I checked, and found it was the Monitor cable, so I tightened that.

Problem solved.

Thank you.

A moment of panic and fearing the worst and a very human response so don't worry about that but fwiw, including the above highlighted in blue in your OP would have helped.

You are welcome btw  :)
