I got this error and doing a quick search said it was a .NET problem but doing a little more investigation it turns out it's a possible Microsoft screw up.

A successful update requires expanding the Recovery Partition? What? I'm letting this update sit until Microsoft fixes it. If not then I'll do a disk image and then expand the Recovery Partition. What a mess.

Nothing yet by Susan Bradley at askwoody.com

This is why I always wait at least 4-5 days after Patch Tuesday before updating...

I always wait five weeks if I can remember to do so.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

Since on my PC MS installer originally installed W10 I think I'm going to let MS come up with a fix.

Per that article.

The only advice that Microsoft offers is to manually resize the recovery partition so that the update can be installed. Note that the instructions work only if the recovery partition is after the OS partition.

The only problem is that on a clean install the Windows RE is at the front of the OS partition, at least it is on my one Windows 10 computer. Edit: In

fact, my Windows RE partition is at the front of the EFI partition. So it looks like I'm going to delete this pending update and then hide it with the Windows update tool as I don't use Bitlocker. Microsoft really screwed up this time.

I've never understood why they make those partitions so small anyhow, at least in the 20th century, we could easily make them twice the size just in case a change like this should arise.

True that. I deleted the pending update and hid it with the Microsoft tool. I won't see that piece of crap update now.

What would be a real tragedy is Microsoft pushing this update to Windows 10 home users as Windows 10 home doesn't support Bitlocker.

I thought all versions of Windows supported some form of Bitlocker now?

Just to clarify. If your WindowRE partition is at the front of the disk, ahead of the EFI partition and OS partition, the steps outlined by Microsoft probably will not work as you need to shrink the OS partition and then move the EFI partition next to the shrunk OS partition then expand the WindowsRE partition.
