Yes, the FREE upgrade pathway was closed by MS a couple of months ago.

You *can* upgrade from 7 to 10, but you'll need to buy a legit 10 license.

Didnt know that about MS closing that down if upgrading to 10 .

Done a School Enterprise Laptop month ago but bought a Key to activate it as it was tied to the School Network after a clean Install of 10 Home.

Still good to know but i,ll tinker on the next one and work out a fix or a Work Around , MS Sucks at times....

Dan:

The article you cited dates from December 2022.

MS closed the FREE, legal upgrade path in September 2023.

To upgrade legally, one needs to buy & activate a legitimate Win10/11 license.
(OR move to Linux.)

Just trying to manage expectations for those who missed the “loophole” opportunity that existed from 2016 until a few months ago.

This is 2023 (almost 2024), not 2016.

But, sure, by all means, give it a try.

To reiterate: I'm only trying to manage expectations for those seeking a legal pathway to update.

I give up. :scratchhead:

I'm out....

Cheers

You cannot do it legally and have it Activated for free but there are many keys on the net you could use if wanted.

The good news is you can do it free without issue as long as you don't mind it not being activated!  You just won't be able to Customize it like an Activated OS, all else should work fine.

The bigger question is, will your computer run it well or not, give us some real details about your hardware.

From the Search Box:

  1. Click on Search Icon and type msinfo32 you will see the System Information Icon, Hit Enter to bring it up.
  2. When System Information comes up it will be on the System Summery Tab.  Click Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy.
  3. Paste the System Information to a Text Document for future use and to post your specs here.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.
