I have an older ASUS that almost every time i shut it down it tells me don't disconnect power updating, then it go's into % of updates being downloaded to this computer it's running Win 10.

Then when i restart the computer it's installing the updates.

Anyone else ever have this happen on an older system.

Nope, not seeing that behavior on either system.

Probably due to prior failed updates.

Looks as if you're also being helped here:

@Russianbear I have read you have 1 system on Win7, 2 on Win10 and a new one on Win11.

You must post the make/model of the system you are posting for.  As well run a Speccy Report as has been requested in your other Topics and a MTB Report to be able to help you.

Thanks.

One thing you haven't said either here or on tenforums is just how often this happens, ie. how opten do you shut down the problematic machine?

Also just what are these updates?
Go to Start>Settings>Update and Security>Windows Updates before you shutdown and it will show you what updates are pending.

In the same place 'View Update history' will show what updates have already been installed.

(Windows Security will have definition updates at least daily, and usually multiple times daily).

Impatience: Is a problem we frequently come across.

Some people expect Windows Updates to download and install in minutes, which is mostly true.

However, on occasion. hours are involved. Possibly including several Restarts, which depends on your PC's specification.

Have you tried leaving the PC to itself for several hours?

I am sure the computer is as updated as it's going to ever be as Microsoft is no longer supporting Win 7, so it's not a big deal if it does not shut down for a minuet or two.

My older ASUS computer is still a very useful back up computer and i feel it still has many good years ahead.

Most likely because you are not letting it fully update before shutting it down.  The computer is old and slow so we should expect this with Windows 10 Unfortunately.  This shows how much MS don't care about the consumer but only about big corporations.  Now, if they let us have the choice to turn off updates for those times that we only want to run our computer for a few minutes and then shut down that would be the way to treat your customers.

PS, Just so you know you are not posting in the right place if you are asking a question, this is the Discussions Section, I think you wanted to be in the Support area.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

Well i feel i now i have everything under control with the updating on both the Win7 and Win!0 systems, Win7 is no longer supported and the update that never were installed are just stuck in limbo but is not keeping it from still being used.

Soon Win 10 will no longer be supported but again it will still be a good OS for many years, maybe were lucky it wont get updated.

Anyone who has been forced to use Win 11 as i am with a new computer preinstalled with Win 11, you quickly find that MS has made a lot of major changes and we are expected to deal with them.

Hi, turn the Win7 into Linux Mint (most like Windows with software and tons to be had, ask if need) if no longer need it for select programs.

If do not like what Win10 and Win11 have to offer in the way of a Start Menu :

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/open-shell-brings-back-the-glory-days-of-the-windows-start-menu/

If do not like much else turn it off as do not have to put up with it nor deal with it : O&O ShutUp10 , you will then have a nice OS.
