This is what the Update Screen is showing for the last 3 days:

Hewlett-Packard - USB - 2/10/2017 12:00:00 AM - 40.11.1108.1741

Status: Downloading - 0%

I have tried stopping the update service, and deleting all files in the SoftwareDistribution Folder, then restarting.  Also ran the Malicious Software Removal Tool in addition to Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but nothing corrected the issue. I am at a loss as to what to try next.  I am aware of the Reset Option but i prefer to use it only as a last resort.  Any help will be appreciated greatly!

Note: Windows 10 Home (Insider Preview)

          Version 2004 (OS Build 19582.1001)

Turn off Firewall to check if its causing the problem.

Use Windows Update Troubleshooter.

  • Right-click on Start button and pick Settings
  • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot
  • Click on Windows Update and select Run the troubleshooter

The update you are trying to install dates back to 2017. If you Google

Hewlett-Packard - USB - 2/10/2017 12:00:00 AM - 40.11.1108.1741

There is a mass of information online about stopping it, removing it and hiding it. There is even a lot of info about failed updates with this update.

What I don't understand is why you would be trying to download this very out of date update anyway?

It is still in MS windows update catalogue so could be downloaded but all I have read says that would not be a good idea.

Download Windows updates manually.

  • Go to the official Microsoft update catalog;
  • Enter a specific update code, for example, KB4481031
  • Select the correct version and click Download
  • Click on the link and Windows will update your computer

Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

That update is too old for your computer. You have to hide it as per the instructions that were given to you.

You might be new to running insider builds, but there are always bugs to work out. You really need to hide that useless update or it will download and mess up your system.

Why are you worried about this update? Do not think about it, it is nothing.

Your update history shows that you have updates for both a Lenovo and an HP. What brand of computer is this?
