Hello,

I am trying to install 'Windows 10 Insider Preview 17686.1003 (rs_prerelease)' and its getting failed multiple times. It downloads, then tries installing the update after multiple restarts it says configuring.. then it says reverting back. Even if i do not do the download.. my settings automatically download the update and is pushing me to restart the system.

How to fix this error. Please help me.

Thanks,

Nallamilli Raman.

Revert back to your last build - I image each build after i'm sure it's operational

once you are operational check for updates - the .1003 build downloaded and installed as expected

if you do not have an image you may need to do a clean install of the latest build in hand.

I'm convinced that 17686 left dregs and they are corrupting any new build. the reimage seemed to do the trick

My current Build is Version 1083 (OS Version 17134.48). I did a clean install last month.

Is there a possibility for resetting the Windows Update?

If you have not done a clean install since the last update failure you may not be able to get the new build to install correctly. When the automatic 'revert' runs it does not always remove all of the trash left by the failure.

Any other option available instead of Clean Install?

I am not aware of any. This is why I do an image of the build after initial testing to insure that it is operational. it allows me to recover quickly.

Well it's sort of went more and more where you should have 10...lost quite a bit of support with a lot stuff with older OSes.

No real reason not to...worked out a lot of the hiccups with it and its been awesome. Maybe not as liked by some as the Mobile Platform but at home Gaming and Workstation it does Excel at that.

I use Macrium Reflect to make my images [https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree ]

it works well and I keep builds sorted by number, the disk will hold at least three

hope this helps

dicke, I agree with you but the reason why I said that they are not "worth using" is because a person has to enter the program with the right mind set. These builds might not add much to an individual's computer satisfaction but they certainly contribute towards the communities understanding of bugs and fixes.

Rocky,

Agreed. I have a multi-boot machine and keep the Insider builds isolated to a separate drive -imaged to a third drive :thumbup2:

Continue to use the current version / build as my primary - also imaged to that third drive

lets me sleep at night
