I'm on Windows 11 and I was to use my old Windows 10 start up disk as a storage drive, but don't know how I can format it as one partition.  Currently it has three partitions:  System Reserved, Recovery and Storage.  Could anyone please tell me how I can do this?  Thank you!

In disk management you'll delete all partitions and format.

When I right click on the partitions, the only one that lets me do anything is storage partition.  How can delete the other two? Thanks! Update:  Oh wait I did get as far as getting rid of the system reserved, but the Recovery partition offers no options.

Thank you, Pkshadow, I seem to be getting somewhere now, but I still haven't been able to combine the unallocated space with the other partition.  I'll keep trying...  OK, I was able to format the one of them into one partition!  Thank you so much!
Now, on another drive (I'm trying to format another old system disk as well), I still can't do anything with the Recovery volume. When I right click on it, I just get "Help" with takes me to a page about the Disk Management in general.

Hi, well instead of beating head against the wall this is totally free (used on and off for years) https://www.paragon-software.com/free/pm-express/#

There should be able to merge or delete the partitions.

https://www.google.com/search?q=diskpart+remove+partition+force

will work.

also:  quoted from https://www.icare-recovery.com/howto/diskpart-delete-partition.html

Diskpart delete partition shall be in the following order

Start cmd in admin mode, and type 'diskpart'
type 'list disk'
type 'select disk *'
type 'list partition'
type 'select partition *'
type 'delete partition' (you may also try 'delete partition override' to force delete partition with diskpart cmd)

To format your old Windows 10 startup disk into one partition on Windows 11:
  • Backup all important data.
  • Access Disk Management through the Start menu or Win + X shortcut.
  • Delete existing partitions on the disk.
  • Create a new partition in the unallocated space.
  • Format the new partition with NTFS file system. Always double-check before formatting to avoid data loss.

Thanks! I already solved the problem with DiskPart, but I appreciate your reply. What you described worked for the System Reserved partition, but for the Recovery partition, I had to use DiskPart.

Hi, @smith_alx:

This is just another generic, copy/paste or AI-generated reply, after the Topic Starter had already solved the problem. This is a pattern for you.

Thank you
