Here’s the scenario on my Lenovo ThinkPad Type P16 Gen 2, which is running Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit, version 22H2:
– I run a drive imaging program twice daily to save my light and fluffy biscuits if Windows ever has issues (R-Drive Image, but I don’t recommend it),
– I run BackupOutlook by Wisco once a day to preserve my Outlook 2019 doings (BackupOutlook I *do* recommend),
– Although both programs are set to awaken the computer, Windows doesn’t usually run either of them until I touch the keyboard and the computer comes out of ‘Sleep’. This is completely goofy; I’d run both BackupOutlook and R-Drive Image for a very long time on Windows 10 Home or Pro. Both of them woke the computer automatically in the Windows 10 OS,
– I've already been through many, many iterations of fiddling with Windows 11's Power, Sleep, and Screensaver settings. With, and without Lenovo's advice I've even tried tweaking the advanced power settings. Yes, "Allow wake timers" is enabled for both battery and AC power modes.
– I'm out of my own ideas after months of trying to solve this. The problem with both programs points to Windows as the source of the problem. The imaging software publisher's support has never been helpful for anything I've asked them. And it's not a problem I'd expect the publisher of BackupOutlook to solve because the sleeping problem is also happening with at least one other program being run in Windows 11. So I have come to think it's a Windows 11 concern.
– Lenovo’s “Premier” phone support people often have almost no idea how to actually support Windows. They usually have to first check their internal databases before they offer a tentative answer. A couple of them have also sounded and acted like complete n00bs. In the several times I’ve called them about this or other needs, they often have to consult with other Lenovo people to *guess* at what to do.
Who else has had a new Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit box which wasn't waking up to run scheduled tasks? And what did you do to solve your own need? Thanks for your attention and thoughtful help!
