Hi all. I bought this laptop in the fall of 2022. I bought it because it was supposed to have W10 but is actually W11, but that's another story.

I wanted nothing to do with OneDrive but it signs you up automatically as I recall. I finally got disconnected from it permanently, or so I thought.

Recently I've been getting daily emails from them reminding me of the photos I took one year ago or whatever. I can block this email easily enough, but I'd like to empty out anything and everything of mine that is being held there and delete any ties I have to it.

How do I do this?

Solutions run the gamut from disabling it, to unlinking your device, to uninstalling it.

Note of caution: follow directions carefully & make sure all the files/documents/photos you want to keep are located somewhere safe & sound on your local computer or an external storage device before killing OneDrive, so that you don't inadvertently lose anything.

OneDrive is, without a doubt, Microsoft's greatest invasion of your personal security, that has been foisted on us, of late.

Wow, the cure is worse than the disease. :(

I did successfully disconnect (I think?) from OneDrive not too long after I got this laptop -- maybe from advice from this forum, don't remember.

What I really want to do now is completely empty out whatever of mine that is stored there. Is there an easy way of doing this?

Yeah, it stinks.

It has its fans.

But a LOT of folks detest it.

Does this help?

What do you think that your "One Drive" files tell Microsoft about you?

The question asked is exactly what I want to do. But I'm getting a headache reading the responses. Again, the cure is worse than the disease.

Thanks anyway.

MM: Your link appears to be about stopping the process of automatic backing-up to OneDrive.

Not about "removing" any links to OneDrive from ones PC.

I know that this is not my thread but that is, I think, what Andy and I want to do.

It appears as the first option, every time I try to save anything. I wish it wouldn't

Apologies.

"Dumping OneDrive forever" can be interpreted many ways. That sounds like "uninstalling" or at least "disabling" it to me. But I misunderstood the intent of the inquiry.

I no longer use it. So, perhaps someone more facile with OneDrive can help.

I expect that the solution is probably buried in one or more of the tutorials at elevenforum.com.

I'll just respectfully reiterate the caution to ensure that you do not inadvertently delete (and lose) files from your own PC in the process. (I have seen reports elsewhere of exactly that unwanted complication.)

Cheers

1. I thought I delinked my PC from OneDrive in the fall of '22. Now I'm not sure.

2. If I have, then I'd like to empty whatever data I have on OD.

In addition to Patrick's always-sage advice....

Perhaps this is helpful?

Good advice here from a highly-respected member at this other forum (>40K posts):

I personally don't like cloud storage altogether.  So I brought a NAS and been using that for the last 2 years.  Best thing I have ever brought.

I don't even link windows with my ms account either, have a local login AND even forced that via GPedit.

A NAS is cloud storage, same as network shares.
