Any ideas on how to stop the switch to the new outlook??  I rely heavily on the calendar app for scheduling on three linked machines, lately the new outlook as been trying to load.  After trying to get all the machines to work with it and failed I do not want to use it.  Hoping to block the switch!

What new outlook, and whats the issue with it?  Are you using Office 365 or Offline Office meaning installed from a CD/DVD?

FWIW, I think OldPhil is referring to Outlook for Windows (also referred to as New Outlook).

As such, there is an article on how to Turn On or Off "Try the new Outlook app" in (Windows 10 and) Windows 11.

Good luck! :)

There is a slider switch too on the top right of the windows, which allows you to switch between New and Old Outlook.

Note that Microsoft state that the "Old" one will stop being supported on 31st December 2024.

Thanks guys I have been fooling around for a couple of days, the slide switch works on one tower but not on my laptop.  I get it turned off only to have to go through the drill!!  I will be looking into a non MS source.

Again thanks guys!

Between my wife and me being old farts we have tons of Dr. Appointments.  I want the convenience of being able to check in three different locations around the house.  I am hoping to find one that that will update across the three machines.

Let me know if you see a good one.

While Microsoft is gradually rolling out the new Outlook experience, there's no guaranteed way to completely block the switch at present. However, here are some options you can consider to manage the transition:

  • Check if you have a toggle option: In some cases, you might have a temporary toggle in the top right corner of the new Outlook window that allows you to switch back to the classic experience. This might be a viable option until the full switch becomes permanent.
  • Explore browser extensions: Some third-party browser extensions claim to offer a "classic view" for Outlook. However, use caution with these extensions as they may require access to your data and could be unreliable or introduce security risks. Research and use them at your own discretion.
  • Utilize Outlook desktop client: If you're comfortable using a desktop application, consider downloading the Microsoft Outlook program for your computers. This provides a familiar interface similar to the old web experience and can be used for managing your calendar and emails.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Go to the Outlook menu
  3. Uncheck the option for the New Outlook
  4. Click the Revert button
  5. Allow the application to revert to the Outlook Classic view

Switch to Google Calendar?

The OP can use Outlook to manage, but not inside Windows. I find the newer look of Outlook to use is a lot easier than the older way. All contacts and calendars come in without issues, same as when using the mobile/tablet version of Outlook you get access to your cloud folders with Google.
