Super Slow Internet Speed

Computer is ASUS desktop windows 8.1

Internet speed has been upgraded to 1 Gbps, other computers get speeds between 900 mbps to 1 Gbps

My ASUS desktop PC is getting a speed of 160 Mbps

Note: This is with Ethernet cable, as I don't know how to use wireless on this computer.


Any ideas why it's so slow or what to do exactly?

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[   Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization: Windows 8.1 has a feature called "Windows Update Delivery Optimization" that allows your computer to download updates from other computers on the local network or the internet. This feature can sometimes consume bandwidth. To disable it, follow these steps:

a. Go to the Start menu and open the "Settings" app.
b. Click on "Update & Security" and select "Windows Update."
c. Click on "Advanced options" and choose "Choose how updates are delivered."

Okay I clicked "Start Screen" clicked it, clicked "PC Settings" 
clicked "Update and Recovery"went to "Windows Update"

There is no Advanced Option. 

The screen says to the right.....finishing installing updates, view your update history,
choose how updates get installed,  to the left the screen says... windows update, file history,
recovery


And it looks like there is no way to post anymore screen shots on bleeping computer either
to show you, as the only options on bleepingcomputer now is image properties URL
what ever that is and it is not letting me upload picture as a file like it did earlier,
this is going to make this conversation incredibly difficulty trying to explain everything
without screenshots.


I think it's some kind of windows process doing all this, because I have an awful time with
this PC, as it constantly hits 100% disk usage with various tasks using it under
Task Manager, back when I had 500 Mbps internet speed package this computer 
was giving me 30 Mbps max, so I reset to factory and got 400 Mbps for 2 or 3 days
then after that it went to 300 Mbps max and could never reach 400 Mbps again.

And then when got new high speed internet package for whatever reason now
max speed is in the 100 Mbps range.

I would consider upgrading to windows 10 as the driver for your network card may not be adequate enough, and to confirm this you can create a linux live session from

https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Then use ventoy from

https://www.ventoy.net

To create a live boot.

I would also recommend removing AVG and use windows defender.

Bleepin Madman I wanted to ask you if something like this would give me a
faster speed on windows 8.1 or if you think it wouldn't help any.

There are a few things you can check to troubleshoot your slow internet connection on your ASUS desktop PC.

  • Check the Ethernet cable. Make sure that the cable is properly plugged into both your computer and your router. You can also try using a different Ethernet cable to see if that makes a difference.
  • Check the network adapter drivers. Make sure that your network adapter drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.
  • Restart your computer and router. Sometimes a simple restart can fix a lot of problems.
  • Change the Ethernet port. If you have multiple Ethernet ports on your router, try using a different port.
  • Change the Ethernet cable speed. If your router supports it, try changing the Ethernet cable speed to 1000 Mbps.
  • Contact your ISP. If you've tried all of the above and you're still having problems, you may need to contact your ISP for further assistance.

Here are some additional things you can try:
