I am running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and really enjoy using the Linux Operating System. I always download and install any and all updates as they become available. I use two browsers: Brave and Firefox but it takes an age to surf the super highway. Could someone help me out here please.

Welcome to the Linux & Unix forum here at BC.

Any chance we could have some hardware specs, please? This will let us see what we're dealing with:-

  • Make
  • Model
  • CPU
  • Amount of RAM
  • Storage type & amount
  • GPU, etc...

I am curious as to what you mean when you say

...but it takes an age to surf the super highway.

Over to you...

Mike.

Do this

sudo apt install inxi

Then this

inxi -Fxrzc0 | nc termbin.com 9999

Then share the generated link in your next reply.

I can say based on my own experience that Ubuntu 22.04 LTS uses Gnome GUI which is very resource demanding.

Without a powerful graphics card and powerful processor and at least 8.0 GB of memory it will be somewhat slow although not a painful experience.

A weak graphics card / graphics adapter / APU / hd processor graphics the Gnome GUI will load down the processor.

Please post your system specs as was requested.

Couple of questions:

What internet speed are you signed up for?

How full is your Hard Drive?

Good questions.

Browser extensions can slow a browser down.

To many installed browser extensions are never good.

Yup; I second Inxi, too. Shows us everything we'll need to know....

@ j71Ze4:- In case you're not aware, Inxi is kind of like the Linux equivalent of Speccy (except it doesn't give you tons of irrelevant info like Speccy does. Everything Inxi delivers is useful!)

Without relevant info we're whistling in the wind.....and I don't believe anybody here is experienced with a crystal ball. We're not mind-readers, unfortunately..! :P

Hi.

With Firefox try it in trouble shooting mode, Top left corner click help and select trouble shooting mode, That will temporarily disable all custom settings plug ins etc and try it.

I am a 71 year old noob. Have tried on numerous occasions to do as Bleepin Madman suggested but all i get is a url which i follow via the browser but that's it.

I did come across a site that told me to run

sudo lshw
but its such a long file and the speed of my computer would take forever to upload.

My computer is a: Wired2Fire Ultima WS Home Office Workstation and the only specifications i know are as follows:

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G Processor

AMD Vega Integrated Graphics

16GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory

1TB Ultra-Fast NVME SSD

And it came with Ubuntu 22.04 installed as default OS

There are no tweaks that will speed up Ubuntu to run faster. Only way it is going to run super fast is without overloading the aoS and not doing any gaming.

Fantastic, you solved the speed problem just by not overloading, whatever this means i have no clue.

There is zero physical way to tweak Linux to make yourself believe that it is going to run fast. Linux is not Windows, the same as Mac OS is not Windows. Web browsing is always going to be slow on any OS.
