I'm running Google Chrome on Linux Mint, and often leave tabs open overnight so that they'll be ready to go in the morning. Recently, though, I've had an increasing problem with Chrome having completely shut down overnight -- none of the tabs/windows I left open are still there. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to prevent it? Thank you.

@ js10 :-

TBH, if I want to do what you're attempting - it's actually how I run it all the time now - I go into Menu (the three dots, top right) -> Settings, then in the left column select "On startup"......and check "Continue where you left off". That's all I've ever had to do, and it always works for me.

(Unless, of course, you suspend overnight.....in which case, the system should restore everything to exactly the condition it was in when you put it to sleep.)

Mike.

That DOES work for "regular" mode, but sometimes I use Incognito mode. In which case it wouldn't work, right?

Right, that's what I thought! Which is why it would be great to prevent these overnight crashes from happening in the first place!

You still didn't mention if you are using Sleep or Hibernate?  Some newer laptops also have a setting in the bios that will make the laptop go into sleep when the lid is closed.

You may also be having internet issues during the late hours, or early hours as it may be.

Always post your hardware in the first post for best results in a forum.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

You mean in terms of extensions? If so, just three, and nothing that I would think would be problematic.

I'll put it this way. I had Mint reinstalled a few months ago and haven't touched anything in terms of the power settings, so I guess it's whatever the default is.

And the hardware is a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7050. In other words, and probably importantly, a desktop, not a laptop.

No the sites and how many tabs?

If using Ubuntu install inxi

apt install inxi

Then run

"inxi -Fxrzc0 | nc termbin.com 9999"

Then

"sudo journalctl -b1 | nc termbin.com 9999"

Share both links.

Why don't you let us in on that secret?  Disable them if they aren't the inbuilt Google ones.

I don't know what the default settings are so I would look to make sure.  If it is anything like Windows Sleep and Hibernate are Enabled.

Until you provide the sites in the tabs and extensions used, I see no issues in the above reports. Although I do recommend going to mint 21 and getting a much much newer kernel for your machine.

That's because they are different all the time, just depending on what I'm working on. There's no "standard" set of pages I have up when it happens -- it's just a general phenomenon.

The newer kernel thing is interesting. Is there a link you could provide that explains how to do so? Thanks.

Right here

Also check your power management settings.
