I was scammed by an alleged (but false) technician from Bitdefender. In the subsequent communications with BD, Phil (@Alexandru_BD?), he wrote “May I respectfully suggest that you go to Bleeping Computer to have it examined by a malware identification and removal specialist? The best in the business over there is “ Oh My!.’  He was one of my trainers. Just title your request as something like: ‘Please check my computer for malware, Oh My!’ “  Thank You!

Hello and welcome to BC:

Is your computer a Mac?

Reason for asking: you have posted in the Mac forum section.

Cheers

Yes, I have aa Apple iMac.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the malware helpers here only work on Windows PCs.

If so, perhaps try here?

Unless you are running it in Developer mode, all locks and safeties turned off, there would be very little chance of getting infected with what little of Linux & MacOS malware is out in the wild.

DocCookM:

Sorry for the confusion.  I incorrectly assumed that you had a Windows computer.

Bleeping Computer Malware Removal services don't include Apple computers.  I am sorry about that.

I am personally completely ignorant of the Apple OS.  I can only recommend that you run a Bitdefender security scan of your computer.

This link may also help you: https://www.macworld.com/article/671430/how-remove-virus-mac.html.

Please accept my apologies.  Good luck, and have a great day.

Regards,

Phil

You may find Howard Oakleys Silentknight and XProCheck apps useful for checking macOSs own malware defenses are up to date.
