Green coming out blue, means that the yellow is not playing ball.

Yup.

That's an old, discontinued printer. I've had excellent experience with HP AIO Officejets over the years. But the hardware does have a finite lifespan.

There are folks here who I'm sure will be happy to guide you through trying to fix it, playing around with the printer innards, if you are so inclined. And there are likely YouTube videos, FWIW.

But another school of thought is that it's just time for a new printer. They are relatively cheap nowadays, as the company makes their $$$ from the ink, not the printer itself.

Looking at the printer cartridges, the heads are integrated into the cartridge. Did you try putting in a new cartridge? If new cartridges don't help it's a hardware issue. Seeing that the printer is that old, I would opt for new printer over getting new cartridges if you don't have any on hand.

as far as i know this is a new cartridge,as i put the old one back in and that prints nothing and showed empty.so if the head is in the cartridge then its new it must be hardware, too late for Santa as wife's all ready bought me two SSD's.any recomendations? i don't print very much so maybe that's the problem lack of use.

Not printing much on an inkjet tends to clog the heads. If you don't have to print in color I would look at getting a laser printer.

Before you rush out and add to the waste mountain, try ANOTHER new cartridge - the one you have may be faulty.

Oh, and clean the gold contacts with alcohol.....
