If I use my USB webcam's mic, or my USB mic, they work unless I try to use the Camera program. In that program, it doesn't matter what tricks I've tried in settings, Windows Settings, the CP and RealTek, it will not record any sound and says that the privacy settings need to be changed - but the settings it takes me to are already correct. To be clear, Camera doesn't have its own settings for the mic.

When I test the mics in Sound Recorder or in the system settings, it registers them.

At this time, RealTek Audio Console refuses to open. It worked yesterday. I will note that, previously when I had RealTek set to pop up a selection menu when I plugged in something, it worked - but now it doesn't do that (and didn't yesterday, either).

I have reset the camera settings, no joy. My headset mic also will not work with Camera.

My headset mic works if I plug it into either the front or rear jack. However, if I plug it into the front, it works inconsistently with or without the speakers plugged in.

To be clear, it's only the input (mics) that's a problem - output doesn't seem to be affected.

Asus TG H670 Pro Wifi D4 with i7-12700k (lost the silicon lottery on this CPU - it performs about as well as my son's 12600k), 64 GB DDR4 3600 MT/s CL 18, etc.

It's always been something of a pain setting up sound, but this time something is consistently wrong.

I just tried using both repair and reset from within Apps > Installed Apps > Camera. No luck.

You don't say what OS you are on, but if in Windows 10, are you sure that the Camera App is allowed access - as in the attached screenshot?

Sorry, I have W11 home and, yes, it is. I logged out and back in and now RealTek Audio Console is accessible - and far more complete than before, although still not functioning entirely correctly (it's identifying the headset as my stereo speakers and vice versa).

It is usually you, as the user, whoi has to identify to the driver (via a pop-up on insertion) what you have just connected to the audio jack - as the driver has no way of sensing the difference.

Not a major problem, as it only affects how the optional fancy audio processing options handle output.

It may be that the RealTek drivers are corrupted - try uninstalling them and re-booting (which should re-install them).

If no joy, try a system integrity check: Open a Command Prompt at Administrator level and run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then:

SFC /scannow

I went into the app settings and terminated the app, then tried repair and reset, followed by a reboot. No joy. I also did the two CMD commands. I've just uninstalled the device drivers in device manager. BRB.

Well, I tried all of that and nothing changed, so I uninstalled RealTek AC and downloaded it from Asus and started the reinstallation. It should already be done but it's been several minutes and it's still trying to install it. Would that be a problem with Windows or the hardware?

Note that I'm also having BIOS trouble, so I'm going to pull the battery and maybe even reset the CMOS.

To clarify about BIOS, when I press delete to enter BIOS, there is a long delay before the password prompt comes up (trying to keep my son out of my computer), which isn't normal, and an even longer delay before BIOS opens. The whole thing stutters badly - both visuals and mouse cursor movement - so I'm hoping that clearing it will resolve the issues but, if not, I'm worried that resetting will make it impossible to upgrade BIOS later.

RealTek drivers were finally reinstalled after about 10 minutes, but not the app. :(

I've got the RealTek app reinstalled. It's not mapping the speakers correctly on my no-name 5.1 speaker system (it used to). It also didn't resolve the privacy setting problem in Camera. Also, it's no longer offering to pop up the option to select the device when I plug something in. In other words, the option to have it do that has disappeared from RealTek AC.

I also reset CMOS & BIOS, and reconfigured XMP and my fan and pump curves.BIOS, sadly, is still glitching. I turned on VMD for PCIe and SATA, although I wasn't entirely sure if that is the best choice?  I'm going to try to reflash to the current version since AI Suite 3 doesn't allow it on my system. I also tried to bump up the power of my CPU using AI Suite 3. Running Superposition showed absolutely NO change in performance (ARGH!), and now there's an odd buzzing sound intermittently during testing that I've never heard before in the dozens of tests I've run.

Ok, I've made a bit of progress. I gave up on trying to get Windows Camera to work, and installed Power Camera, instead. I also swapped the left and right inputs on my sub-woofer. Unfortunately, the signal is still not being divided up correctly (5.1). On the bright side, after mucking about, I can not only record audio and video, but they are actually projected from my speakers with the correct volume (previously, the volume was very low because I had front green set to rear speakers and front pink set to front speakers (even though there's actually only one jack in front). Oddly, I can no longer plug in my speakers into the built-in sound ports as they cease to be recognized by RealTek, whereas at least I get SOMETHING out of the front IO, suggesting the rear IO is damaged. Yet, my headset works in the rear when I unplug my speakers in the front (or with both plugged in if I allow for both front and back to produce sound simultaneously).
