I have two laptops and two SD cards. One laptop reads the two cards and the other displays as raw with a message telling me I need to reformat. The simple thing  is to save files on the laptop that reads and reformat on the other but wouldn't the problem be with the laptop that reads raw? I don't want to use other cards only to have the same issues. Anyone know if there's a fix for the laptop to stop reading raw? Thank you

Seems to me that the port used would be the place to start, if one laptop can read but the other cannot.  Have you looked at Device Manager for signs of an issue?  Have you tried other media on the questionable (IMO) system?

I did not try other media since I assumed two cards would suffice in determining the issue is with the laptop because both can read on the other laptop. I saw nothing specific that stuck out on Device Manager. Both cards read "Raw".

Open an Elevated command prompt and type

diskpart
list disk
select disk X    Where X is the drive letter of your SD Card
detail disk

Post the outcome back here.  You could do this on both computers if you want just to see if they both report the same thing.

CMD Copy Paste

To copy paste from CMD Command Prompt:

Put your cursor in the Title Bar.  Right Click Edit > Mark or Select All and then Ctrl+C.  When selecting Mark that allows you to Highlight what you want before Copying.

You can uninstall the drivers for the port...and then reboot/allow them to reinstall.  They could be damaged.

Just just backup the files and scan the drive to repair it.

Your provided link takes me to a resolution for "There is a problem with this drive" error. That's not the issue I'm having.

I do not see where that option is available. Right clicking displays update driver, disable device, uninstall device, scan for hardware changes, properties and nothing to uninstall drivers in properties.

Uninstall the device...is equal to uninstall the drivers.  The drivers are what allows Windows to recognize that the device is present and working properly...the device is a hardware item that is identified as part of system, it cannot work properly as part of the system...without the drivers.

Copy the data from the SD card on the computer that can read it then format it on the computer that can't read it. If you get RAW again then it's probably an issue with the card reader. If this is a card reader built into the computer then consider getting a USB card reader like the one in the below link. The link is just an example. You may find something else that better suits your needs.

Of course John's advice is better to format the drive!  If you have time or are inclined to do so I would love to see if the Scan will fix it.  Have you ran chkdsk on it yet?

chkdsk tells me the type of file system is raw and a chkdsk is not available for a raw system
