I bought new memory from dell for my optiplex 7010. I up it to 16gb. it had 8gb in it when i got it and bought two sticks of new memory. Got new memory because it kept shuting off for no reason and i got a orange flashing power button. So i look it up and what i learned off of my search was a orange flashing power button mean a bad memory. So i bought two new 8gb sticks. After putting them in my computer ran faster and good. Well a week went by and 8pm at night while i was watching twitch it shut off by itself and the power button started flashing orange. I can move them to other spot and it will work good for a week or so then shut off then start to flash orange. I used the old memory from it in another computer and they work fine. All i used the optiplex for was to run my 3d printer and if i not doing that is to watch twicth or you tube. I got this computer at my local good will store for $9.00. They test them before they sell them. I only upgraded the memory and cpu. The cpu was on a list i found online of ones that will work in it. I went from 2.93ghz to 3.30ghz with the cpu. But i don't know if this it a thing that happens to these old optiplex 7010. Thanks for the help i get.

I bought a refurb 7010 some years ago...I dual-boot W7 and W10...16 GB RAM the max but I have 32GB installed/16GB useless.

Have you tried changing the CMOS battery?  If not, it's a cheap and easy thing to do.  I've never had to worry about anything with mine, but I would think PSU if a shutoff occurred while using.

Yes i have changed CMOS battery. I boot windows 11 on it. I did have linux on it but since i wanted it for just to 3d print with i put windows 11 pro on it. Mine shuts down and the power button flashes a code for bad memory. Dell won't help me since this computer isn't supported anymore. They wanted me to recycle it with them and buy new off them. I did have 24gb but i went down to 16gb since i read it only handles max of 16gb and if you had more it would ruined the chipset in it. Thats what i read online when i did some researching online. I did try the PSU in my other one and this still does the same thing. I have a optiplex 990 too with the same PSU in it and switch them last time i was having this problem. Well thanks for the help.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.   Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to  website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from ccleanercom (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Post below the Reply box.

I can tell you...my Optiplex 7010 presents me with a message when I go to Updates...stating that the system is not suitable for upgrading to Win 11...you seem to have bypassed such warnings/advice.

Speccy reflects a virtual install of the O/S.  I have no idea what you are doing or trying to do, maybe others here can assist you.

Hi,@gwb21471:

It appears from your Speccy report that you are running Windows 11 on very old, unsupported hardware.

FWIW With feature update 24H2 due in April, the existing workarounds will no longer work.

Ok. I didn't do any work arounds to install this. I just put the windows 11 on a usb from microsoft and then used media creation tool and burn it on my usb and then put usb in the computer and let it installed. After it got done installing i sign into my micorsoft account and it activated and thats it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think your 2nd-gen Intel CPU is on the list of supported processors:

All I know it installed just fine. Its working perfectly since I took out the two old memory sticks and left the two new ones in. I think with them being two different voltage what was screwing things up. Since I took out the higher voltage memory sticks its running faster now. I going to leave it on to see what happens before I start 3d printing with it again.

MoxieMomma is correct because performing a Ctrl+F search on THAT provided website for "i5-2500" will NOT yield any results.

There is an article on your Intel® Core™ i5-2500 Processor. It was launched in Q1'2011, and Windows 11 does NOT support a 13-year-old CPU.

Additionally, Windows 11 is NOT listed on Your OptiPlex 7010 (End of Life) Supported Operating Systems).

MS Win 10 Pro 64-bit V. 22H2 (19045) Desktop PC, EAMH Paid/EEK, MB 4 Prem., WPP, NVT OSA Free, and Unchecky, MDFW, FF with uBO, Grammarly Free, MBBG, and Acronis CPHOE (DI), SUMo Free. I have 28.5 Years of PC Experience.

@gwb21471:

My post was intended for information only, so that you don't wake up to an unbootable computer or other surprise.
Alas, at some point, you're likely to run out of luck running Windows 11 on such an old CPU.

Cheers

In any case...I suggest that you start making routine backups of the working system, using a 3rd-party backup program...and do so on a periodic basis.

Just basic protection for when/if things go wrong again.
