So I am putting together a list of components to build a solid computer that can last me at least 5 years.  I do gaming, photo/video editing, and stuff for work that requires reviewing 3D imaging.  I had everything picked out except for the heatsink/water cooling.  When I started researching, it opened up a whole can of worms.  Here is the list of the components I had chosen:

Case: Fractal Design Focus G

CPU: i9-13900KF

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z790-H

GPU: ASRock Steel Legend Radeon RX 7800 XT

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB (4 x 16GB)

PSU: Corsair RM1000x

SSD: Samsung 980 Pro 2TB

It seems that the CPU I chose has a big problem with overheating. So that means I either need to get a hardcore AIO (which my case wont fit) or change processors.  I have built about 4-5 computers in my life and never ran into an issue like this. I've read that you can undervolt it and get better temps without sacrificing performance.  However I have never done that and have no idea how to do it or by how much to do it.  Then theres people who say theres other ways to do it where you dont undervolt.  There's little consensus on the "right" way to fix the problem and it all gets very confusing.  Id rather have something I can just plug and play.  What's your advice on where I should go from here?

[Edit]  Maybe I could have been more clear in my original post.  I am looking for an alternative to the i9-13900KF that doesn't have the heat issues but is still an amazing CPU.

I have read many of those links and like I said in the original post, everybody has a different way of trying to correct the problem.  Theres no consensus on a proper voltage value.  Some people have the same issue regardless of the change.  I was looking for easy.  Is there a CPU thats a beast and doesnt have the same overheating issue?

Choose a different CPU...there is nothing binding you to a specific processor that I'm aware of.  You have chosen a CPU that has a history of a given problem...I would just choose another out of the potential offerings that don't have a history of problems.

Have you taken a look at the motherboard specs to see which CPUs might satisfy without problems?

"So that means I either need to get a hardcore AIO (which my case wont fit) or change processors."

Case cooling is very important and even more so for the very high or top tier CPUs. Better case cooling means better CPU cooling.

It maybe you can  solve two problems at the same time - case cooling and fitting in a proper AIO - and that solution is to just  get a better case.

Another solution is use the non K version as it does run hot but not as hot as the K version. Still recommend using a 360mm (or even a 280mm if it fits) AIO for either version.

You are talking 2 topics here.

You are speaking about Building so should have gone and posted here : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/139/system-building-and-upgrading/

You are speaking of issues with something else.  That is another topic altogether.

I assumed since I was asking for advice on a CPU that it went under internal hardware.  Sorry if that was incorrect.

I am actually looking for advice on what CPU to chose in place of the one I had picked.  What is a great CPU that doesnt have the heat issues.

An alternative besides going i7 is try AMD maybe a 7900 (non X). Low on power draw and low heat. About the same performance as a current gen i7 or an older i9.

Also the Ryzen 9 7900 (non X) comes with a decent box cooler (air).

AMD CPUs in general draw less power then Intels hence have less heat problems.

Also a 280mm does fit in front side of  the Fractal G case.  (280 mm requires that the bottom 5.25" slot is unused)

A 280mm is very close to being a 360mm.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YQxh9c for AMD 9 7900 (non X) includes your selected case and Windows 11 OS. But IMO change the case and something with more air cooling and more space and something that doesn't look outdated.

Review of the Ryzen 9 7900 (non X) here https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7900/

Maybe this one for example with 2 160mm fans in the front, space for a 360mm AIO on the top, and is easy to build in too. And is cooler with much better air intakes.

https://lian-li.com/product/lancool-216/

priced here https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KKytt6/lian-li-lancool-216-atx-mid-tower-case-lancool-216rx

Same build but selected the alternative case and removed the 7800 XT and added the 7900 XT (much better card than the 7800 XT; this one performs better than a RX 4070 Ti see specs here  https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-7900-xt.c3912 )

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rjKFPF

Notice the AMD 7900 with a 7900 XT (not with the 7800 XT)  is just $100 more than your posted selection; see here for a rough estimate of pricing https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6xj8ZJ of the Intel  i9 build (with the 7800 XT) and without any CPU cooler for the Intel (that will add more $$$ for the total cost) so total cost for either system will be roughly the same. Just that the Ryzen 9 7900 with the RX 7900 XT system  will have a better GPU and run cooler and use less power (same saving on the overall utility bill).

Alternatively select an i5 13600K/i7-13700K (if still wanting lower heat and power draw) with an nVidia card for a different build. If you really want Intel.
