Hey Everyone,

I've never owned a gaming PC before and I was hoping someone here can please help me out. I have my eye on 2 PCs one brand new and the other second hand I was wondering If the 2nd hand PC priced at £450 is worth that price here is the link https://www.gumtree.com/p/laptops/asus-rog-gaming-pc/1470700961

Here is the link to the new one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/refract-gaming-amber-1080p-pre-built-gaming-pc-fs-1dk-ep.html

I hope someone can tell me their opinion on both PCs how both stack up and if the 2nd hand PC is worth the £450 the seller is asking for.

Thanks  :thumbup2:

Hello Want2Believe,

Neither, the used one there is not enough spec info, speed of the RAM, is the RAM two 8GB sticks or one 16GB stick, no PSU info at all and last but not least, never buy a used PC unless it is from someone that you know and trust.

The new PC has a no name brand PSU and no onboard graphics, the former you nee a well known brand for stability and the latter you need to have fo back up should something ever go wrong with the add on GPU.

Thanks for your reply PhiillPower.

I don't know all the specs for the used one but the guy said he'll tell me more tomorrow so will wait and see what he says.

I'm willing to spend around £1100 on a gaming rig do you know of any good sites to buy PCs from or maybe even recommend a rig around the stated price?

Like all system builders they use budget components wherever they can to keep build costs down, this is a particularly bad thing when it comes to the PSUs in high end/gaming rigs.

Got a link to what you have purchased.

No worries and sorry to be so negative but a massive no to the ASUS, almost 1500 quid for a computer that has no onboard video and only a 700W Bronze efficiency rated PSU.

Being an ASUS computer you would expect them to use an ASUS branded GPU in the PC would you not, well for some reason ASUS include a 700W PSU in this computer yet their own specs for their own brand of RTX 3070 say a minimum of a 750W PSU is required, you can confirm this for yourself at the various links here one explanation for this is that ASUS have dumbed down the performance of the card so that it requires less power and produces less heat.

For the cash that you are prepared to spend I suggest that you either build your own or purchase the parts and ask a competent person to assemble the build for you, a local tech would be expected to charge around £75 for this but check first.

Your budget would get you either of the excellent or the outstanding build here

One final nag from me, never purchase a computer that does not have onboard video or a minimum of a Gold efficiency rated PSU from a proven brand such as the Corsair RM range, EVGA, Seasonic or Super Flower.

Save your money and build your own.

Reasons:

> Your money goes into quality components, not some company's profit line.

> You will know how your unit is made, and you can do your own troubleshooting far easier.

> For the same money, you will probably have a faster unit.

> Building is not rocket science and there are lots of folks here that will help you if you run into problems.

..as PhilPower referred to above.
