I installed kaspersky total last year on my laptop. I first installed it and was going to use the 30 day free trial and also had to enter my credit card information so if I want to continue using kasperky total after 30 days, then I don't do nothing. But I would also have the option to cancel within 30 days so my credit card would not get deducted. Now when I installed kaspersky total, I did this while I was in the US. I then continued using kaspersky total.

At the moment, my kaspersky total is going to expire pretty soon. I do not want to renew it through kaspersky total because they are charging over $100 for it which is very expensive. Now at the moment I'm outside the US. I do see that I could buy kaspersky total for $20 or so on amazon.com US. Has anyone here done this and this is the same thing or similar to doing it through kaspersky? I mean that is a huge price difference with $20 vs $100. I do not want to pay $100 to renew it.

There is no issue with me using my US credit card while abroad as I used it many times before even ordering off amazon.com US while I'm outside the US when ordering this right? My question now is... can I order kaspersky total... and then enter the code into my kaspersky total account now since I'm outside the US or will there be any issue? Do I have to wait till my kaspersky total officially expires before I enter that code? I believe after you order kaspersky total, you will be sent the code to your amazon account? I also believe kaspersky total is different depending on what country you are located in? Has anyone ordered kaspersky total through amazon.com US and renewed it while abroad?

I see Amazon sellers selling old Kaspersky on CDs going back as far as 2014 for $20 or so. I did

not see a seller selling latest Kaspersky Total for less than a 99.99. I think you should take another

look at that offer of $20.

QUOTE A BIT FROM...U.S. Finalizes Rule Banning Kaspersky Products From Government Contracts - Nextgov

September 9, 2019  The federal agencies that lead the Federal Acquisition Regulation Council—the Defense Department, General Services Administration and NASA—will publish a final rule Tuesday to the Federal Register outlining how agencies should abide by a provision in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act restricting the use of Kaspersky products.

Legislators enacted the law in response to concerns from the U.S. intelligence community that Kaspersky executives—some of whom are former Russian intelligence officers—have close ties to Russian government officials. U.S. officials also expressed concern that Russian law would compel the company to share sensitive cybersecurity information on U.S. agencies gleaned through their platform with the Russian government.

Agencies were already under mandate from the Homeland Security Department to remove all Kaspersky products from their systems by October 2017, but the acquisition rule extends that to contractors providing services to federal agencies.

-If you are on a subscription, you first need to cancel auto-renewal. Refer to the KB mentioned below for details.

-If you are currently using a standalone license, then, yes, you can add a new activation code through the program's GUI before your current license expires. KTS will automatically switch to the new code when the current one expires, without losing days. Yes, legit standalone licenses will usually be cheaper than renewing a subscription.

-Amazon does offer fully legit KL products as standalone licenses directly through KL. The non-refundable/non-returnable policy is standard for such software products.

-Price varies depending on the product (KAV, KIS or KTS),# of devices covered (1, 3, 5 or 10), and on license term (1, 2 or 3 yr) and all prices increased recently. Here is the US link for a 3-device, 1- year KTS license: https://www.amazon.com/Kaspersky-Total-Security-Device-Download/dp/B076CQG9QB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3H038FP98FMZ0&keywords=kaspersky+total+security+2023&qid=1672567549&sprefix=kaspersky+total%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-1

-Having said all that, KL (like many security software vendorsrs) imposes georestrictions on their software licensing. And the Amazon product pages - at least in the US - EXPLICITLY STATE that the offer is restricted to customers *LOCATED IN THE US*. If you are not located in the US, then Amazon may decline the purchase and/or KL may not accept a US license.

-KL maintains a superb, well-written, detailed, illustrated set of KB articles for all their products, with detailed answers to ALL your questions. For example: https://support.kaspersky.com/kts21. They also have excellent customer support easily accessed by your account at my.kaspersky.com

Just short of a month ago I got an email from Kaspersky, on my registered email address, to remind me that my renewal was due. I went onsite and cancelled the renewal as I had removed Kaspersky from my PC. I used the link in the email - which addressed me by name.

A couple of weeks later, I got another email saying that my renewal fee would be taken out of my bank account, on the due date, which was shortly.

I went on-line to their chatbot - My question was not one of their standard responses and after a few minutes i got through to a "Responder". He was all efficiency, checked me out and confirmed that I had been removed from the list. I got an email confirming this from Kaspersky, 2 days later, as he had said.

The actual renewal would normally have come out of my bank in the next couple of days. So, I shall confirm if it does not - job done.

Kaspersky could not have been more helpful and I shall almost certainly return to them, once Putin has Russia out of the Ukraine.

Okay so no longer is kaspersky total on sale on amazon for 20 dollars.  It is now back up to 100 dollars.  I did receive an email that said I could renew it with a discount so it would be $60+tax.  To me, that is still a lot.

Does anyone know of a site that I can buy a kaspersky total subscription or code for $20 or so?  I do find total kaspersky decent.

The thing is I know windows defender is good but what if you click on some link but you didn't mean to etc?  Wouldn't windows defender sometimes not protect you but kaspersky total would?

Also the other issue I mentioned is I'm outside the US.  So does kaspersky total need to be activated while in the US?

So kaspersky total on amazon price dropped down to $25 now.  It is normally $100 and when it was on sale last time it was $20.

Now would you say this is still worth it?  Again I paid $60+tax last time for it.  And this time, I did not feel like paying $100+tax for it but there is a discount that makes it $60+tax but is that too much?

The main question I have here is... if I purchase kaspersky total on Amazon US... I can activate it while I am outside the US where I am now right?  I believe it has to do with which kaspersky you downloaded on your laptop and not your physical location?  Anyone can confirm this?

Kaspersky free, how is it compared to kaspersky total?

The reason why I want internet protection is just in case as I don't think windows defender is good enough if say you click on some link?

Why do you think that Windows Security is insufficient for your needs ?

Do you have any evidence that it would not protect you as well as a 3rd party AV product ?

Do not confuse the current AV product from Microsoft with earlier products with similar names. The AV supplied with W10 and W11 will provide you with adequate protection. The only reason to pay for a 3rd party product, is that some of them allow you more configuration options.  From the questions you are asking here, it is clear that these would likely be of little benefit to you.

No AV product will offer you complete protection, and your own browsing habits are much more influential on whether you will contract an infection or not.

Well isn't kaspersky total much better?  Well if you click on link or download a program, would kaspersky total protect you much more than defender?

Anyone know if you can renew kaspersky total while out of the US with this?

 No, and no.

Just because you're paying for it, that doesn't make it better, it just makes it more expensive.

The effectiveness of any AV depends on the quality of its definitions (the things it detects) and there will be times when Kaspersky's definitions are better than those supplied by Microsoft, but there will equally be times when Microsoft's definitions are superior to those supplied by Kaspersky.

As I said in my previous post, NO AV WILL PROTECT YOU FROM EVERYTHING, so if you think you're going to just download and install an AV program, and then you'll be able to click on anything and everything with complete immunity, then think again.

The major reason that people get infected, is because of their browsing habits, and has very little to do with which AV program they have installed.

In over 18 years of removing infections from people's machines, I've seen infected machines with just about every combination of protective programs you can imagine, and in practically every case, the reason the machine in question was infected, was not because the programs were inadequate, but because of it's user's browsing habits. Put simply, they paid no heed to what they looked at online, and expected their programs to perform miracles, and surprise surprise, they couldn't.

You can see how Defender rated against other AV's here.

https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/advanced-threat-protection-test-2022-consumer/

https://www.av-comparatives.org/comparison/

You can make Defender even better by using Configure Defender using the High setting.

You keep asking that question and it has already been answered.  No it's not.  Against some infections it may be superior, against others it may be inferior, just depends on the quality of the definitions for the individual infection.
