So I have been useing flashcrypt as a first layor of protection for some files. These files are also encrypted and the flashcrypt is for the folder.

I know, I probibly shouldn't have done so, especially with a no longer supported program...

But today my folder is damaged somehow. when trying to decrypt it, I get the error "Flashcrypt failed to restore folder. Storage error: can not preform this operation on read only storage".

I'm not sure what happened, but I see no option anywhere to clear readonly so I suspect the folder has data damage. I assume there is no way of fixing this, but I thought Id ask before deleting the folder.

Right click the folder, select Properties. Under the General tab is the box for Read Only checked? I would recommend you create an encrypted file container using Veracrypt.

The read only box was unchecked, I tried checknig it and then unchecking it and it still says the folder is read only.

Ok, veracrypt looks cool. I'll use that in the future. Looks like my old archive is just corupted though.

Yes, I think you are out of luck unencrypting that folder.

There may be a way to recover the folder if Windows has a Shadow Copy of it. Download the portable version of Shadow Explorer. Run the program and look for a recent Shadow Copy. Read the documentation first. If the folder is available recover it to a location other than your current encrypted folder.

I just tried that and there where no shadow copies. So I'm pretty sure the folder is just corrupted, I can't imagine any way to fix it.

Thanks for the advice though, I think I will keep the folder in case a future method to fix it happens.
