Hi all,

I'm at the point where I need an app to help me stop doomscrolling and block distractions.

I came across Cold Turkey, which seems widely used for many years now, but is not open-source and has powerful rights on your computer (e.g., full control and locking, hard to uninstall, etc.).
I searched on the web for more information, but apparently some have doubts about the security (e.g., https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=226259.0).

Therefore I was wondering: any track record somewhere to clarify this?

Thanks

Doomscrolling or doomsurfing is the act of spending an excessive amount of time reading large quantities of negative news online. In 2019, a study by the National Academy of Sciences found that doomscrolling can be linked to a decline in mental and physical health.

Thanks for the tip!
Yes, an app blocking other apps is one part of the solution. Here, I just want to select one that is secure, hence why I'm inquiring about Cold Turkey (https://getcoldturkey.com/).
I also had a look at whether there's a built-in Windows app for this, but apparently there isn't.

I didn't know about this topic.  I wonder that if you install a software to control your web browsing, you also have the ability to disable it, making it pointless.  The control must come from within you.  I just browsed through buddy215's good web link. Seeking help from a mental health professional should be considered as well.

As well you mention how much control over the system it takes.

It starts with you so no idea where you are but seek professional or search for help, better yet have someone search for you.
