Sorry, this is long because I know not what I'm doing.

I am using an HP laptop w/ Windows 10.0.19045 Build 19045 that my sister set up. She doesn't remember what she did. I mostly use the computer now and she uses her phone. I went from winxp > Mac X > Win10.

I got an email to my email address that said onedrive would be erased if I didn't reactivate. My sister did the setup using one of her email addresses and did not set up a separate account for me. I just use her account. I did pay to renew the license for Office, but I don't understand why this email would come to my email instead of to hers.

The email's sender's address is <onedrive.infomail.microsoft.com>, so that seems legit. When I clicked on reactivate it gives me an email option that uses a 2nd of my sister's email addresses - not the one linked to the laptop's setup, so that has me wondering.

I thought Onedrive was where our Documents, Pictures, etc are filed - not as a backup but as regular storage. So, I thought it was being used regularly. I thought I was unable to access documents w/out internet - but when I tested later I was able to do so. Onedrive is listed in Explorer as if it's the HD. I can't figure out from Device Manager what's going on w/ Onedrive vs the physical HD.

If this is a legit email, I need to reactivate, altho I do not understand how they can say it's inactive. Maybe if this is a onedrive set up during the initial setup - maybe for backup - and since unused - that would make sense.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Is this legit? How do I determine if my files are on Onedrive or on the laptop's HD?

Edit: My files do seem to be on OneDrive. I found a C drive w/ Program folders but the Documents folders was empty.

The email's sender's address is <onedrive.infomail.microsoft.com>, so that seems legit. When I clicked on reactivate............................................How do I determine if my files are on Onedrive or on the laptop's HD?

In the email, hover, but don't click,  your mouse pointer over the "reactivate" link and let me know the domain name that should appear bottom-left of your browser window. The domain name is the first part of the URL.

Regarding your question, open File Explorer and look at the your Documents and Pictures folders. What does the OneDrive icon look like for each file - solid green circle with the white check mark, green tick, or blue cloud?

Also, check the status of OneDrive by looking at its icon in the Notification Area  (bottom-right near the clock) and tell me what it is.
