Hi-

I joined a forum a few months ago and right after registering I went to visit the sight and got a message saying my IP was banned.

I contacted the admin but they say I am not banned.

This is confusing. What is going on and how do I fix this please.

Thanks

Were you using a VPN at the time?

I was not using a VPN.

I read that resetting your router may create another IP address.

I am not familiar with IPs. Would getting another address causes issues with hardware or

access to other sites?

You don't need to reset your router just power it off wait 10 second and power back on should assign new IP address as long as your router does not have static IP address.

Maybe another (ex-)member of the forum you are accessing, who also shares the same ISP as you, got banned, then your ISP gave you his old IP address in a very short period of time.  [IP addresses are not created.  Your ISP gives you one so you can connect to the Internet using it.]  The forum may have assumed that you are the banned member, so refused to grant you access.  It's not a perfect forum protection rule, but in these fast times, it's a possibility.

As suggested, if it happens again, I would suggest that you power-down-then-power-up your router, as well as clear your browser cookie cache for this forum to start a new login process.

The power down approach seems like a good idea. Ill give it a try.

The forum just sent a reply that they will look into it (again). Interesting.

Thanks

It looks like the admins were able to fix things on their end. I did not have to restart anything. If it happens again I will try a restart.

To be clear, it looks like the ban took place before I was even able to register.

Again, thank you for the replies. Good information.

Some forums try to block user or users from posting even though they are operating within the requirements of forum. They will ban anyone they think might be that person hoping to stop the person or persons from posting.
