Hi, you can no longer trust the time in the right bottom corner.  Microsoft has made time always sink to a server so if the CMOS battery dies it may or may not through up a error and the time will be set.

Only way is to boot to Bios and look at Time in the BIOS as it will be off in there where set time in Bios.

Was banging head for a few days till figure that out.

I would really like to apologize for not pointing out that you should use the Macrium Reflect 8 Home Trial and am sorry to hear that you even are having an issue with using it on your Windows 10 laptop.

I fervently hope that the Macrium Reflect Technical Support Ticket will help you further to resolve your issue and will now bow out of this topic to not cause any further confusion.

However, now I have to get some sleep as it is 04:50 AM here in Norway, so Good night and Good luck! :)

Holy crap. What else will M$FT think of to screw things up? Did those overpaid idiots think about generating a warning in the CMOS battery is dying?

Can I replace the CMOS battery? Where the heck is it? This is an old and very crappy Surface Book 1.

I found some instructions to press Win+R, enter msinfo32, and look under System Summary. I did that and got this:

Attached File  Win 10 BIOS.jpg   90.26KB   0 downloads

It looks like no date ia available. Grrrrrrrrrr....

PS: How can I make these images bigger and clearer? They are not this size on my machine.

No apology is needed. In fact, I owe you an apology for not paying better attention. You clearly said Reflect 8 Home. I just saw Workstation and didn't see the other options that were off the screen.

It looks like it's a M$FT problem. I think I'll give Acronis a try and see if they have a work around.

Nighty-Nite. You probably know some of my relatives there in Norway. Several of my ancestors left Norway and Denmark in the late 1800s! If things don't stop being so stupid over here (USA), I may move back.

You can use Macrium Reflect 8 Home Free Trial for 30 days and then purchase Macrium Reflect 8 Home.

Or you can use Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Free Trial for 30 days and then purchase Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials, Advanced, or Premium.

Good luck! :)

Thank you. The Macrium trial failed, possibly due to a malfunction of my CMOS battery.

The Acronis trial installed with no problems and I was able to post a question their forum and got an answer in a few hours. And Acronis is a lot cheaper than Macrium. If it works as well as it looks like it will, I'll be a big fan.

Thanks for the pointers.

In my post the mirror switch (/mir) will delete files.  I use it to synchronize two folders.  It will delete files in the destination folder such that it is a mirror of the source folder.  It's a good idea to review the link below and know what a command will do before using it.

I spent a little time reading links like the very useful link in Pkshadow's post.  After a little experimentation I settled on a few commands and placed them in Notepad.  It's easy to alter them in Notepad to change drive letters or folder names.  After the initial not so friendly start it has now become very easy to use.  I haven't had to research new commands. At the end of the day it takes me about three minutes to synchronize two or three folder structures.

Once I tried it with the entire C drive.  It was awhile ago but I recall it was taking a long time because of the large number of files so I stuck with images and clones for complete copies of a drive.

.

I find that Robocopy is more like a science or sorcery than a user friendly tool and getting the right commands is a reason to save and copy/paste as you do.

I have provided-ed the info several times but have found no one that has succeeded as of yet :  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/robocopy

Acronis Success!!!

The installation on Win 10 went without a hitch as did the image backup, which only took a little more than 2 hours.

The installation on Win 11 also went without a hitch. When it completed, it told me that the Win 10 backup was 31% complete!

When the Win 10 backup was complete, I moved the USB drive to Win 11. I was able to open the backup file (Win10.tibx) using File Explorer. Tomorrow, I will experiment with some of the sync features of Acronis.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I am very happy with this product and will be buying a subscription. It looks like a great product and this is a great forum.
