Can you take a video of you plugging a phone in and show device manager in the video and upload to YouTube and share it here.

Do this with the phone unlocked.

Not really sure why a video would be necessary.  Not that I’m at all concerned about privacy, or anything; I’m just wondering if there’s a specific part of the “plugging my iPhone in via USB” act that you’re wanting to scrutinize.  (I’m also truthfully not sure I have the technological capability / know-how to do that.)

Here I’ve posted screenshots of Device Manager both before and after my iPhone is plugged in.  Fell free to ask any questions about the mechanical aspect of me plugging in the phone, if you have any specific concerns or suspicions.  Like I said earlier, I do make sure the phone is unlocked.

Are you using an official cable, and is iTunes installed and updated?

Attached is the corresponding page that the cable was ordered from.  Though not Apple brand, per se, it does appear to be certified.

And yes, I had come across an earlier suggestion online to make sure iTunes is up to date.

I'd buy one from an apple store to test.

Hmm.  May have to look into that.  Will wait and entertain other suggestions too, though.

Can you identify the Uknown USB device?

When you re-boot the PC (after a restart) is the Unkown USB device present or does it only show up when you plug the phone in?

I'm not quite clear what you mean by "what's going on."

Here are screenshots showing what I see when pursuing you instructions.

Are you able to discern anything from this?

That's a mystery to me.  And I don't know what changed between yesterday and today

...but here is a screenshot of Device Manager with the phone plugged in, from just a minute ago.

Whats under portable devices

Good call, I just thought to check that, myself...

This screenshot is from just now, with the iPhone plugged in.

Apparently nothing at all in Portable Devices reflects that... Might that be an indication of a problem?

No, that hasn't changed.

Attached is a screenshot of Device Manager, after I plugged in my iPhone via USB.

Under Portable Devices, there's no mention of anything related to the iPhone.

...To me that sounds like a matter begging investigation.

Run it, and then go to File and Publish Snapshot. Post the resulting link in your next reply

Download and install min-toolbox from here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
