Most/all of us here & at other help forums will tell you that Norton & most/all other 3rd-party AVs are cr@p.

Windows Defender, perhaps with Malwarebytes Premium, is sufficient for most users.
The weak link in the computer security chain is the user.
No security application can provide 100% protection.

If Norton is the common denominator with the issue all your devices are experiencing, then you may well have answered your own question. :-)

Having said all that: before this thread drifts too far off-topic, I suggest starting a new, separate thread for the other issue.

Cheers

Don't just disable it I'd temporarily remove it.

You have Windows Defender to be protected.

I'm hardly an expert.

And Windows Event Viewer can be a bit of a rabbit hole.

Running the Windows Update Troubleshooter can't hurt.

I did run the troubleshooter, and it said it could find no issues.

I then went to manually look for Windows Updates... and it said I'm up to date.

Looking at the Speccy I am not sure that Windows update is broken?

I wonder if Norton is the culprit in bloking the phone connections?

The Norton possibility did, indeed, just cross my mind, as well.  And it is a common thread among all 3 computers in the household that I'd mentioned.

Thus I'll temporarily disable Norton (with my browser closed, to be on the safe side), and see whether that makes any difference.

Thanks for prodding me to explore my own suspicion...  :thumbup2:

OK, I just tested that possibility...

Temporarily disable (and not re-enabled) both of Norton's features "Auto-Protect" and "Smart Firewall".

Connected my iPhone to the computer via USB, and then repeated with a family member's iPhone.

...Still, neither was recognized in Windows Explorer.

Additional info:  Previously, I had come across the suggestion that the iTunes application on my computer might need updating ...but no, it says it's up to date, so that can't be the problem either.

So a suspicion of mine had been to make sure the latest Windows Update had been installed, thinking that means of interfacing between Windows and our iPhones might be responsible ...and this led me to discover the problem with that "stuck" Windows update that you were all so gracious in helping me hide.

Still scratching my head...
