I have a naive question or two. First, when I open windows update and go to update history, the last "attempt" was the 2020-05 cumulative update for WIndows 10 version 1909 ( it failed or some reason, but previous updates did succeed). I am also informed in the main windows update screen that two updates are available :2020-01 for version 1909 and 2020-05 cumulative update for version 1909. Both are labeled as "pending downloads". IT seems I have a different version than the new update, so will I be retaining version 1909, or will the new update I've read about be applied to my laptop here?

â€Second, since I have two updates waiting, 2020-01 and 2020-05, will both load when I press the button? What about  2020-02 through 2020-04?

Finally, what in hell are these weird symbols on the left when I hit the Enter key?

You are experiencing the "stuck Windows Update" phenomenon. I would post the information about the status of your Windows Update to the Windows 10 General Support forum. We can get the January item cleared out of there, because it has been superseded by the 5-2020 update. The 5-2020 update will include all previous updates that you may have missed.

Once that update goes through, then it will likely offer you the Windows 10 2004 Update, although that sometimes gets rolled out in waves.

The weird symbols are a bug in the forum. It happens seemingly randomly.

Well, thank you vry much. SO the single digits refer to the month. I have just been informed that I should replace the hard drive in this machine. If you think its worth posting, I will repost in the GEneral forum. Are you saying that I should just use the 5-2020 update and ignore the january update? Not sure what you mean there.

Yeah, just use the 5-2020 update and ignore January, because 5-5-2020 will include Januarys automatically. If the hard drive needs replacement, you may get a chance to start over fresh anyways.

W10 Home running on a Medion Erazer X6823 (MD98254) I dread every major update because they ALWAYS update my touchpad driver and render it useless, ...sometimes I also lose the dratted keyboard as well!

Since Synaptics have ceased to host the required driver, I have squirrelled away many copies, just in case!

My current problem with this machine is that Updates tells me KB4560960, KB4561600 and KB4559309 are "Pending Download", ...but those can only be downloaded and installed along with the dreaded version 2004.

What perturbs me is that I have a choice; carry on running the machine without the included security updates, or install Win 10 ver 2004 and become part of Microsoft's experimental new game "Find The Turkey"!

I have another fairly old machine, a Toshiba Satellite Pro L750 which is running W10 Pro as an upgrade from Win 7 and that one lists the same updates along with  KB4497165 but thankfully, I'm allowed to install those without being forcefed W10 ver 2004.

My most recent machine, an Intel NUC6i5SYH running W10 Pro tells me W10 ver 2004 is on its way, but my machine is not yet ready for it!

...God help my Erazer and my Tosh then!

Any advice?

Are you talking about the Bleeping Computer Forums symbol bugs? What exactly are you talking about? If you are having issues, start a new thread.

That site has a low Trust Score, I would not bother with it!

This is not a Support Thread, this is the Discussion Thread.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

The best thing to do with windows 10 updates is wait they will all come through eventually.

We have several computers at work that are stuck at various versions of Win 10, and will not update automatically, or when you try to force one.

3 examples:

v1809  build 17763.557

v1909  build 18363.836

v1903  build 18362.30

I am using this OP link to try to update mine (v1909) now.  Thanks for posting the link.
