One thing at a time, Disable the old Wifi card and test it again in the room with the base router.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

Okay, pc, I switched adapters by disabling the oriiginal and enabling the one you specified. This is down in the room with the extension router. I then tried to send an email, connected to Xrouter via ethernet, and it wouldn't go. I was informed that I was not connected and that I could not send the message. So I took the laptop upstairs to the base router room and, once again, could not get internet connectivity. That was without ethernet, just Wifi.

Re-Log into your Wifi Network!

What speeds is your wife's laptop getting in the room with the router?

I'll try to check her speedx but she is particular about her machine. I'm not sure what you mean by re-log into the wifi network. Are you talking about the router password and all like that?

What about wee eddie's suggestion. Would the laptop itself be fried? what component is responsible for this problem. Can't it be replaced?

Ok, did you run Adwcleaner and not miss the last step as was suggested ???   As that resets the Windsock which maybe is all that needs to be done.

As well follow the motherboard as was suggested,

Log into your Wifi Network on your laptop!

I don't think the laptop is fried, no!

Once you are logged into your wifi network if things still don't work follow PK's tutorial.

Okay, I wonder if I have located a problem. I was trying to log in to the wifi network I use. I opened Settings Network and Internet and found something I had forgotten. There are two Wi-fi networks (?) if that's what they are, thaqt are installed. I think someone from Verizon did this a while ago, and I remeber one was for the main router and the other was for the extender, which doesn't seem to make sense. But what do I know? This is under WI-Fi in Settingds. One is listed as just "Wi-Fi" and is shown as "on". The other is labeled "Wi-Fi 2", which is also labeled "on". That one shows the Wi-Fi network that is the one given on the side of the router "Fios-25UBE". It is as "connected, secured" to that Wi-Fi network. Should I do something about this situation, which seems weird to me. Looks like a recipe for getting some signals crossed. Des

Why didn't you Log into your Wifi Network on your laptop like I asked!!!!!!

Log into your Wifi Network on your laptop!  Do this on either network from the Wifi Icon in the lower right corner of the task panel.  The network that is showing as the strongest will be the one that you are closer too!!!!!

I was going to log in to "my WiFi network", but there are two of them. Hello? Which one should I use? Both of them? Only one of them? In that case, which one of the two?

It's obvious to just log into the one that is the strongest.  Do you see that there is a stronger signal from one of them or are both the same?  Assuming that one is the Router and one is the Extender.

Please don't make me hold your hand the whole way.  Test them by the router, and then test them downstairs.  To test one at a time, right click on the one that you tested first and select Forget, then test the other one.  Try to determine which one belongs to the Extender and which one belongs to the router.  Otherwise we will need to log into both devices to see what the wifi ssid's are for each.

Do you see the default wifi ssid on the extender, if so do you see that in the wifi list, bottom right of the task panel?

Because your laptop cannot see 5Ghz I assume one is the router and one is the Extender.

If you can post a picture of the Wifi list from the task panel icon.  Upload it to Tinypic and paste the link here.

You should have bought a better usb wifi card, they are cheap, though I don't think that is the problem right now.

Sorry about my delay in replying. Thanks for your helpful suggestion of running these tests. I needed to set aside some time to run the tests, but didn't have any spare time until today. When I wrote that "there are two of them", I meant that when I go into Settings and open wifi topic, it shows two wifi symbols, and each one can be turned on or off and connect to a network. Anyway, I took the laptop up to the room with the main router and turned on the upper wifi network, turning o0ff the lower symbol, the test showed

Download speed (D) = 41, Upload speed (U) = 29 and ping (P) = 14. WHen I turned off the upper wifi symbol in Settings and turned on the lower wifi symbol, I got D = 12, U = 2, P =15, obviously much worse.

However, when I connected the laptop to the main router with ethernet, I had D = 82, U = 86 and P = 13.

Then I took the laptop downstairs with the extension router and tested it with the upper wifi symbol on:, but it could not even load the test, just spun its wheels. The same was true with the lower wifi symbol. But when I connected it with wifi to the extender, I got D = 43, then 2nd test = 29, 3rd test = 36. U = 9, 12 and 14. P = 16, 14 and 14.

As you can plainly see, even with an ethernet connection to the extender, speed is much lower from the extender than from the main router. Even next to the main router, wifi is maybe half the speed of an ethernet connection. Second, there is some big difference between the two wifi connection options next to the main router, and wifi at the extension router is nonfunctional.  Not sure what I can do about the slow speed with ethernet at the extender router. Any ideas?

Good, sounds like your wifi is working good now.  I think the extender has auto duplicated your wifi ssid's and that is why you are only using the two you keep saying you are turning on and off.

You are still not listening though, I said to use the Wifi Icon in the lower right of the task panel, why are you going into the Wifi Settings and turning things off and on?

and wifi at the extension router is nonfunctional.

See the problem with some of your input, you just said that you were getting about the same downstairs as upstairs, then you say "nonfunctional?

As you can plainly see, even with an Ethernet connection to the extender, speed is much lower from the extender than from the main router.

Then you say this but you did not post any speeds for this in the new test?

You should log onto the router and the extender to see what SSID's they are using if you want to further this testing.  See if the SSID's are the same for starters.  I'm having a difficult time following you so I will leave you with this.  Your last reply was better than the others though.

Mr. pc, you reply seems strange. I reported that the wifi speed downstairs at the extender router was nonfunctional. The speed was so low that the machine could not even download the speed test. Yet your response was, "Good, sounds like your wifi is working good now." No bleep? NO. It isn't working well enough to download a speed test.

Your next sentence is incomprehensible: " I think the extender has auto duplicated your wifi ssid's and that is why you are only using the two you keep saying you are turning on and off." Huh? Say what? I explained earlier that when I open Settings> wifi, there are two listings: "Wi-Fi" and "Wi-Fi 2". These are the things I turned on and off. I did so to ensure that only one would be running at a time and could be tested.

Then you mention something you call a "task panel", without explaining what you mean. I searched on that term and there was nothing that matched that term. There was a discussion of a "task panel" which is a feature of MS Office" and so obviously doesn't concern wi-fi. Consequently, your advice is incomprehensible. I explained why i was going into Wi-Fi Settings and "turning things on and off". To test them one at a time, as you suggested a couple of posts back.

In my last post, I reported the results of separate upstairs and downstairs tests. At no time did I say, "I was getting about the same downstairs as upstairs" as you claim above. What are you smoking, son? I included the speeds I got upstairs and the speeds I got downstairs. In fact, with wi-fi downstairs, if you actually read what I posted, you would see I got no wi-fi results downstairs because the machine could not even download the speed test software.

You apparently did not even read my post. You claimed that, with reference to the Ethernet connection downstairs, "...you did not post any speeds for this in the new test...". How about, from my last post: " when I connected it with wifi to the extender, I got D = 43, then 2nd test = 29, 3rd test = 36. U = 9, 12 and 14. P = 16, 14 and 14. " Again you may be smoking some potent stuff. I hope you'

re not like this all the time.

I request some advice from some new person, please.
