Microsoft should either keep supporting Windows 10 or create .iso's that don't have the requirements for those of us with older equipment to run Windows 11.  This is an E-Waste issue people, and, this is the first time in the history of MS that this has happened, so it will likely be handled differently than it was in the past.  Many people cannot run out and buy a new Windows 11 computer, especially in third world countries.  Forget about Linux, most people don't want Linux, that is only for the geeks.

All the old versions of Windows will keep on working but, maybe not with newer products.

You can carry on using the version of your choice, so long as you understand that Microsoft is no longer providing Security Updates.

If I were to wish to carry on using Windows 98se, my personal favourite. All I have to do is to make sure that my Backup policy is bomb proof and isolated.

I agree with the massive eWaste (the cost of not only disposal but the cost/resources involved in producing replacement hardware) and the unwanted expenditures.

An infinite and extended Windows 10 support would be the simplest solution. Windows 11 does require newer CPUs due to the way the newer CPUs are designed, and Windows7/10 were not designed to manage this newer technology.

MS interests lie in selling newer OS and not swallowing the cost of extended support for Windows 10, so maybe it would need the Gov't to step in and act upon this or some large corporation to pay for the extended support and so keep Windows 10 always updated.

"It will be like what happened to XP. People will run Windows 10 for years even if they don't get security updates."

Until software such as web browsers no longer support the out dated OS. Then it's no longer an internet capable machine and becomes just for secondary uses.

True, but that still took years.

If enough people participate in the Petition and Donate so that the Lawyers can work on it MS will have to adjust their views on the Windows 11 requirements, or keep Windows 10 alive for another so many years.  I think the answer is a little longer support for W10 and a Home and Pro Version of 11 that does not have the TPM and CPU requirements.  Leave the TPM and CPU requirements to Enterprise, Education and Server perhaps?  At least something like that, as I don't know much about how ms really works.

Doesn't Rufus allow you to bypass the TPM and RAM requirement. I'm not sure if it also bypasses the CPU requirement. Still haven't confirmed if this bypass will still give you Windows updates though.

I have not had time to test things out at all.  Lately I don't do any computer projects other than for work.

Been a while since I tested it at work, but when I did install Windows 11 on an older Dell with TPM 1.2, it never updated. This was many moons ago though.

From what I've read it will update but not Upgrade.  And of course you get the Water Mark if not activated.

Could be. This was on the original Windows 11, and I dont have non-compliant hardware to test on anymore. I guess I could create a VM without TPM, but I dont care that much. :)

This is a big problem for me too!  I'm still getting some Windows 7 and 8 pc's that need upgrading.  Even worse you cannot buy the Windows 10 license from MS anymore, so you have to rely on third party sellers.

It's official: No more free Windows 10 upgrades

Back handed maneuvers by MS with more E-Waste.  I suppose there is an argument for those that didn't upgrade before hand, but some of our customers did not, so there are some nice computers going to the dump.

It would make more sense to have at least one "home" version of Windows 11 that doesn't have the high CPU and TPM requirements for use with perfectly good systems with older CPUs (7th-gen Intel or first-gen Ryzen). Petitioning Microsoft to continue supporting Windows 10 doesn't make much sense when the actual resource utilization isn't much different. If you bypass the CPU check, Windows 11 runs fine on anything that can run Windows 10 (aside from being incredibly annoying). This isn't like Vista. Yes, the RAM and storage requirements increased in 11, but that's just because Microsoft decided (after all these years) to make the requirements something that would almost be usable (I say "almost" because 4GB of RAM wasn't enough for web browsing five years ago) instead of being the absolute minimum needed to run the installer.

For now, bypassing the checks will work, but there are claims that the latest insider build did something to make the Rufus bypass stop working.

Now I see that pcpunk said basically the same thing in post 20.

check out this ZDNet article written by Ed Bott on November 16th:

Hoping for a Windows 10 support extension? Microsoft just quietly crushed your dreams

Microsoft announced this week that it's not changing its 2025 support deadline for Windows 10. If you missed the news, maybe you weren't looking in the right place.

therefore that online petition to extend Windows 10 support will be all for nothing, hahaha

Yeah, but just think. When people start dumping perfectly good computers you should be able to get a very good linux capable PC for dirt cheap.

It's amazing to me that those prices are not in effect now John, the tech community would rather throw them away then to give you a deal on them, at least that has been my experience with the tech community in general, there are exceptions to the rule of course.  But as you will see in this thread your average person isn't smart enough to care how much e-waste is generated.

I see these articles all the time now.  I don't know how anyone will deny this and stand behind their opinion that petitions and such will make no difference?  What we really need are donations to the lawyers to make it so.  I am not looking forwards to the support cost for keeping 10 after 2023 with updates, I'm sure it will be ridiculous.

Not unlike the profits the Bill Gates foundation made on COVID -look it up-, even though IMO the vaccine was largely ineffective, the boosters even less so.   The vaccine works on your immune system, so if your immune system is weak the vaccine will be weak.  Healthy people will barely even be sick, some won't even know they got it.  The biggest problem with spreading the virus is all the idiots on the surface of this planet not being careful.  The government handled it horrible, but I feel their pain as you can't control stupid.  You cannot risk hospitals being overwhelmed etc.  Luckily I live in a state that made some good decisions and how to proceed with commerce.

I think many older elderly people died simply because nurses were bringing in the virus to nursing homes, mostly low level Aids etc.  Once people got the vaccine they thought they were incapable of transmission, mostly because they were led to believe that by mainstream media.
