Hi, informing them will do no good as this is an MS issue, for some time MS has been improving it's security, so much so that now all anyone needs is windows defender, it offers all the security you need, and as a result most third party AV's have suffered considerable income loss. Because MS move the goal posts so regularly it has become almost impossible for third party AV's to keep up. This is by design, and a good thing to, since the AV industry is something no one wants then the  sooner we get rid of them the better. You will only increasingly have problems until you revert to defender it is all most western govm'ts use.

We can assist you with your update issue, first we need to know the status.

Go to search and type:- cmd, next press ctrl+shift+enter keys, an elevated cmd prompt will open please copy paste this cmd:-

Emsisoft Anti Malware, but I paid for it so not going to uninstall that. Shall I inform them, about the issue?

Hi The_Cat:

Is this warning from the Windows Security Center, and if so are you certain it's related to Windows Update? I don't use Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM) but I do have a paid license for Malwarebytes (MB) Premium and many users who have upgraded to the latest MB Premium v4.x have noticed similar glitches because MB v4.x now considers itself an antivirus replacement and automatically registers itself with the Windows Security Center as the primary antivirus program on the computer.

Check to see if Windows Security Center Integration is turned on in your EAM advanced settings. Then go to Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security, click on the Open Windows Security button and select Virus & Threat Protection.  If you click the Manage Protectors link (under the heading Who's Protecting Me?) is EAM is listed anywhere as an antivirus or anti-malware provider?  If EAM is integrated with the Windows Security Center your yellow warning might indicate a problem with EAM itself (e.g, failing EAM definition updates) or some other security issue rather than a pending Windows Update.

When I go to Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security, click on the Open Windows Security button and select Home, the summary page shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark for Virus & Threat Protection (see image below) because I haven't set up ransomware protection for Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage. I currently use Windows Defender for my only real-time protection and I can clear this Windows Security Center warning by selecting the Dismiss link if I choose, but opera's post # 5 in How do I fix the WD 10 AV Security Center taskbar icon's yellow !-mark? notes that EAM users will be unable to dismiss this warning while EAM real-time protection is running.  There is also an EAM forum thread Emsisoft Anti-Malware is inadvertently hindering the Microsoft OneDrive setup prompt on this same topic with further details from Emsisoft employee GT500 about how glitches like this can happen when Windows Security Center integration is turned on in the EAM advanced settings.

Hi,...Somehow, when I disable my security program the issue doesn't appear. No updates were found, so can't install any.

Hi The_Cat:

Am I correct that "my security program" refers to Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM)?  If so, have you contacted their customer support at https://help.emsisoft.com/ or posted in the EAM for Home support forum at https://support.emsisoft.com/forum/52-emsisoft-anti-malware-home/ to see if other EAM customers have reported a similar problem?

If you post there be sure to mention your current EAM version as well as your Win 10 version and build number (see the How-To Geek article How to Find Out Which Build and Version of Windows 10 You Have).  It's always possible one of the January 2020 Patch Tuesday updates that Windows Update should have delivered around 14-Jan-2020 (the second Tuesday of the month) has created a conflict with EAM's real-time protection.  I'm not certain, but your list of recent updates in post # 16 seems to indicate you have Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19041.21, which could be relevant to your problem.

Hi The_Cat:

I have no idea since I don't monitor news about Insider Preview builds, but if you're running Win 10 20H1 Build 19041.21 (released to the slow ring on 14-Jan-2020) I wouldn't be surprised to learn it introduced a glitch with Emsisoft Anti-Malware (EAM).  You stated in a previous post that your problem disappeared when EAM was uninstalled, so if Emsisoft customer support hasn't received similar reports from other EAM users who run stable releases of Win 10 (e.g., v1903 / v1909) then you should consider your Win 10 Insider Preview build as a possible cause.

If you've updated to the latest EAM v2020.2.0.9963 (released 03-Feb-2020 - see the blog post <here>) and your problem persists I'd still suggest you post in Emsisoft's customer support forum for home users at https://support.emsisoft.com/forum/52-emsisoft-anti-malware-home/ unless someone else monitoring this thread can offer a possible solution.  I doubt Emsisoft products are certified to run correctly on a beta version of Win 10, but you've already paid for an annual subscription for EAM real-time protection so you might as well make use of their customer support. Emsisoft might even recommend you try a clean reinstall of EAM (i.e., an uninstall from the Control Panel followed by a re-boot and wipe of any orphaned files and registry entries with their EmsiClean removal tool) to see if this helps, but I would wait to see what they recommend just in case it's a known bug and they're already working on a fix.

Just a thought are you using any privacy programs such as 0&0 ShutUp10 as this can also change they way updates are shown and found.

You could also figure out what files to exempt from your program and the problem will go away also.
