What's broken on you MF264DW?  What's the symptom? Are you aware that some printer repairs can be done fairly easily by the user?

Stay away from HP. They recently had an issue where they locked up the printer from use if it had a non HP cartridge. Before that they had an issue with network printers not working because of some sort of firmware issue. Before that they had network printer broadcast an advertisement over the office network.

Old news, friend. Read upthread, where most of this has already been covered.

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 6978.  While I like the printer, I have a problem with HP telling me to use their ink. For a while I was able to use non HP ink cartridges and then all of a sudden fount out that the printer stopped working.  I consulted the place where I purchased the non HP cartridges and they sent me  patch to downgrade the firmware and advised me to set my printer not update.  Now it is working again.

When it is time for another printer it will not be an HP!

I find it hard to believe HP won't find a way to bork that printer and arrange for firmware updates.

At the risk of being pompous, here are my sentiments on printer ink

This is how much so far i spent on HP Official ink via hpinstaink for my hp officejet 8024e.

Screenshot-20240221-024522-Gmail.jpg

It's been like 6 months since I last bought printer ink.

I don't understand why people have an issue with hp instaink.

Cost at retail without using hp instaink

I am not the only one who does not like HP telling people to use their cartridge. End of Story.

Last time I used generic ink to save 60 bucks it ended up costing me a new printer. The generic ink seized to the printer head and totally ruined a perfectly good printer that was several years old and was more feature rich then then the printer I have now. I lost some functionality such as printing from email which I used. So there is good reason not to use generic ink if your wanting to save a buck or two.

Fact of life: The printer manufacturers sell their machines really cheaply and make their money on the in k. A bit like the Razor Blade makers make their money.

You get the razor for almost nothing, but only their blades fit it

Sure, but of course it wasn't always that way. When I was (a lot) younger, I installed HP Laserjet workgroup printers on a network. Seeing page counts of 1.5 million pages wasn't unusual. Even the consumer/SOHO printers like the LJ2100 worked for a long, long time.

I only bought my Canon because I was working on a legal case, and needed duplex printing/scanning at higher speeds.

If that were true then HP isn't doing themselves service with their HIGHLY CHEAP AND AFFORDABLE INSTAINK PROGRAM Please see my screenshot if the notification I've been charged for ink due to printing 10 pages. They have higher priced plans, and even then they are cheaper and 100% approved ink.

That was in a network environment and totally different situations.

They even have plans for those people that use toner cartridges.

The hp office jet printers I have had does duplex printing and fast scans from supported devices even my phone and tablet via hp smart from the android store. It even does copy and fax as well. The price I believe was 150 bucks for my last one, the one where generic ink bricked it was 250 and had way more features.
