Thank you, you both make a good point about buying quality, and yes, being tax deductible is helpful  I was starting to think the same way. Also, the great support Boxx offers is like no other and has been a life saver over the years. Boxx would be my preference ideally, but I'm comparing all options because of cost.  As far as fixing the old machine, I tried getting a new motherboard and suspect I received a defective one since the main power connector wouldn't seat properly. I'd have to buy another one to test again, but the whole thing is so time consuming. When the computer first died, I took it to a local repair shop, and they didn't know what they were doing at all. They broke the USB connector from the motherboard and had things plugged in the wrong places. and told the power supply was dead, but that's the one component I could easily test, and it was fine. Anyway, long story there.  But in the end, Boxx said they wouldn't really want to advise sinking money into it since it's an 8-year old system. I'm thinking of putting it on Craig's list as is for parts. I was thinking for free, but maybe I can get something for it.
Is it known when the RTX 4080 Super is due? I have a big project starting in 2 weeks, but can get by with my laptop in the early phases if it won't be long to wait.

January 31, 2024 is the 'official' release date for the RTX 4080 Super.

However it maybe take some shopping around to actually buy one as some stores probably are taking pre-orders and may not have stock.

Or have just some stock of some AIBs but not the complete stock line-ups; Amazon and Newegg and Microcenter no doubt will have some stock of some sort.

IOWs the selection for that  exact model and  desired price maybe difficult. But buying the card will be still do-able.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-4080-4070-ti-4070-super-gpu/ (general official nVidia press release but has many details).

https://videocardz.net/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-super (just the details for the RTX 4080 Super)

But as to whether or not any custom builders will have the RTX 4080 Super available for builds or sale is another question.

Yes to recoup some funds by the selling off the old one could help you out.

Going lower in cost and with a RTX 4080 Super:

Note: only one RTX 4080 Super is listed as of now for the choice. It is pre-order too. And only one 2TB drive is selected.

Thanks, this is helpful to compare the different configurations. I think I'm going to end up going with a Boxx, though. It turns out they aren't as expensive compared to comparable systems from other vendors as I thought, and the reason I thought so is because last time I chose a build with a professional-grade video card, and dual processors. At that time, I didn't see an option for video cards other than the professional cards, but they do offer RTX 40 series cards if you ask.  I'm glad I looked into it, because I was under a misconception about the price difference. Only thing is they don't offer the Super cards, at least not at this point. Seems like not the best time to buy, but I have project coming up that I'd like to be properly tooled up for.
