Best time to buy a license from a brick and mortar store is at that Christmas / Boxing Day / New Years sales. Actually this is probably the best time to buy almost all retail softwares.
People purchase more PCs at this time of the year and usually get their security software at the same time at the same store.
I usually get a two year key for about $30.00 Canadian for ESET Nod32, although there are regular sales through out the year. $30 dollars Canadian is a good deal.

My current Setup is: Avast (for General Protection), Malware-Bytes, And BlackSheep Anti-RogueWare.
I'm currently running with an i7 930 Processor and 16GB ram.. It's not the best but definitely not the worst. And with that Setup I do not notice any Slow down in my computer at all.
I had also setup a couple Virtual machines and installed that setup on them to test the protection. And all 3 work perfect a long side one another. I'd definitely recommend it.
However, on my older laptop that can't really handle multiple protections, I just had AVG on there which was okay but after about a month or so of trying it out I went back to Avast.
Not just because of it's detection but I really like all of the utilities you get with Avast such as: VPN, SafeZone, Sandbox, Boot-Time Scanner, gaming-mode etc...

Is there any updated version of the list anyone recommend?

Is there any updated version of the list anyone recommend?
I wish I knew. The list hasn't been updated in 4 years and has stuff that should be added or removed. Personally, I use Malwarebytes Antimalware premium, and their browser plugin, with WinPatrol (free - it's no longer supported so there's not much point in paying), and SpywareBlaster provides additional passive protection. For bad malware situations, I also make use of SuperANTISpyware and Spybot Search & Destroy, but that doesn't happen often. I'm a fairly careful web browser, so I don't have a lot of problems.
My browser was, for the longest time, Chrome, but I recently switched to Brave. I haven't noticed a speed difference, but it has both improved security and privacy compared to Chrome. I also keep Firefox handy for when I can't get sites to work on Chrome/Brave (both are based on Chromium). I have the Malwarebytes plugin as well as NoScript, which I find easier to work with and immensely easier to customize each page than other good products like Ghostery and uBlock Origin, both of which also tend to break webpages even when you disable them for a website. I'd certainly encourage using MVPS Host (or similar) to reduce access to dangerous websites. If you need super-high security and privacy, then use TOR Browser but keep in mind that not all websites work well with it because of its settings.
For what it's worth and admitting that I haven't used other programs for years now and am not a security expert, I used to really like Avast! with the old Malwarebytes (supplemental protection, not the main program they offer now, and no longer offered) backing it up, along with Spywareblaster and WinPatrol. I was also impressed with Emsisoft (I did some beta-testing for them years ago), ESET and Kaspersky (which I didn't use because they require more system resources (memory, HDD space, CPU usage) than some), but less than Norton. I was less pleased with AVG and Avira.
Namaste, Peace & Love,
Glenn
