Thank you, Sampei_Nihira! :)

I visited the QuickInstaller - Software Updater/Installer website, and it looks promising, but I would like to wait to try it until its developer releases a stable version.

Interestingly, the developer's name sounds Scandinavian, and my Flagfox add-on and my Chrome Country Flag + extension show that the server's location is in Norway, but I do NOT know him personally.

Good luck! :)

I know I already have learned only one of the most basic commands and parameters in WinGet, which is winget upgrade, but it is excellent as a REFERENCE.

Good luck! :)

Thank you, Sampei_Nihira! :)

Yes, I tried the command and parameter winget list, but I think my habit of checking for 3rd-party software updates twice daily will NOT list many available ones.

If I managed to correctly count my total list of software that WinGet can detect, it is 139, but that is necessarily a bit of an exaggeration. :grinner:

I have to admit that even using several software updater programs cannot replace SUMo, but I am at least glad I never purchased the professional version.

These are, as already mentioned, UCheck Free, PatchMyPC Free, RuckZuck (Free), and WinGet. :thumbup2:

Good luck! :)

FWIW, there is a two-page article on 10 (21) Great SUMo Alternatives: Top Software Updaters in 2023.

Good luck! :)

Some users are using this software.
I don't want to try it at the moment, but it might be better than the others:

thanks 4 your advise. i tried also quickinstaller, it's not bad, but the developers have to work a lot to make it better

There is an article on Software release life cycle, and QuickInstaller is still in Alpha.

You can also try Winget UI and UpdateHub.

Good luck! :)

I am using WingetUI and UpdateHub. And interestingly, they find some more 3rd-party software updates that the other alternatives do NOT.

As such, I am also using UCheck Free, PatchMyPC Free, RuckZuck (Free), and WinGet. And these work well, respectively.

However, I know that using several Software Updater Programs is cumbersome, but the point is that they all look for different software.

As for updating web browsers, I have created a text file wherein I keep an overview of Chromium web engine version numbers on various browsers.

Good luck! :)

Having loved Secunia's PSI (and considered CSI), it was sad when they were absorbed and went away.

By far the best approach in my opinion to this problem is twofold:

  1. Avoid installing unnecessary software
  2. Use WingetUI to manage your software

It's not perfect and will not update some software without intervention.  But it's a win and it's free and it's better than nothing :)
