A little confused here.    What exactly are you wishing to accomplish as it seems you have a working hard drive on your system.

As for VLC it will open anything.   This could mean that the programs that tou were using have become corrupted or their Registry entries are corrupted or wrong or no longer there.

As well Codecs may be missing for Videos or are corrupted, Have you reinstalled your Sound Driver from your Support Page :

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-p6300-desktop-pc-series/model/4124611?sku=BN981AAR

I would guess by this error : Event ID 4120 description: The following fatal alert was generated: 45. The internal error state is 552. that the TLS maybe set or not updated to the correct protocol that was changed as the current protocol is version TLS 1.3  (Note for Win11, your protocol is 1.1 and 1.3 )    Note : your system may not be able to upgrade to this version.

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=what+is+the+current+tls+version

Note the above error can be associated to  the error for the same reasons, fix TLS may fix both: Schannel EventID: 4113 Description: The certificate received from the remote server has either expired or is not yet valid. The SSL connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.

- try this one for TLS : https://hosting.ca/how-to-enable-tls-1-2-on-windows-7/

HWInfo - if wanted info from HWInfo I would have requested that. HWInfo does not supply the requested information that comes from below.

NO Further action to take until : the Speccy Report as has been been submitted as requested 3x's +

EDIT : The Error Information to fix the issue is incomplete due to not being able to see Network and other information included in the requested Speccy Report.

As well no information regarding this error as of yet been provided by the OP as to if it is the system or themselves requesting this download :

Source: Microsoft-Windows-CAPI2) (EventID: 4107) (User: )

Description: Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

Without information there can not be a conclusion drawn regarding this issue and what to rectify it may concern.

OP's lack of computer skills and the following of directions seems to be a issue as well.

I found the issue. I need the codec pack to play the MP4 and .MOV videos. The AVCHD will play. I converted one of the mp4 files to WMV and the conversion worked. So, there is no 'corruption'. And, I cannot install the codec pack because I cannot install 'Service Pack 1'. It looks like I cannot activate Windows 7. * I believe Internet Explorer is 'Out of Service' as the program is intertwined with Windows 7 operating system. Thought you may wish to know. Pics inserted. * Cannot 'activate' windows 7, unless someone knows a work around.

* Will be receiving assistance today.

Hi

neither of those screenshots support your premise of  a non activated system,  its just saying it cannot reach the server to download updates

The lack of Service pack 1 will cause problems, released 2011

STILL need that speccy report to analyse your problem more thouroughly

Addendum:

This is the data or message I received while performing a   "diagnostic test".

*The BIOHD-8 error is a S.M.A.R.T. drive error code that tells the hard drive is failing and cannot be connected properly. It is often found on HP computers and other computers which use the SMART hard drives.

I  Also Checked the hard disk errors with the CHKDSK > "Nothing".

Driving me batts, cannot find anything wrong with the hardware, yet The BIOHD-8 error  S.M.A.R.T. drive error code was present at the onset. The motherboard test looks o.k.

Hi

very interesting  report from Speccy

its not showing your hard drive as failing!!

(suggest you use another dedicated SSD checker)

https://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/clone-resource/western-hdd-bad-sector-repair-tool.html

its also showing a system re-install date of early February with  only W7 (without SP1)

this was likely done with external media, with a save data option

*Yes, you are right on point: exactly correct. I'm installing a new 640 Gb Western Digital Hard Drive and adding an additional 4 Gb's of memory, totalling 8 Gb which ids the most I can have (DDR 3). I will not be able to get service pack I for I tried and no updates will be installed. I cannot even install the Lite Codec Pack because it would not innstall without Service Pack 1. I could not install MSE as i had to install Avast. If I can just keep my email and processing, that's fine. I do not know if I cann install Windows 10 any longer (Free).

"its not showing your hard drive as failing!!

I know, I cannot figure that out. It cannot hurt installing one. I could not remove the drive as I cannot see how it is removed. I'm looking for assistance. Thank you very much for the courtesy and outstanding support.

Hi

i would suggest ---- copy all of your private data to an external USB

then run the link i added for WD analysis ON YOUR OLD DRIVE

if it comes back as GOOD

RE-install via the original HP factory Recovery partition option.... this will only be W7, EXcluding SP1

(The following details will be lost if you replace the SSD/or use the recovery partition ie all your email/banking/social media details --- write them down)

>>LET it update<<, it should start you off, will take a while

notes

it will auto install MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials and update it...... until you have SP1 and all updates then install Avast

Updates after SP1 has been installed may be a bit querky..... give me a shout once its installed

the free upgrade to W10has lapsed

Thank you very much. I very much appreciate the assistance. I already have all my data backed up to an external hard drive. Let me ask a question please. All my video files that contaoin an MP4 or .MOV file will not play in Windows Media Player; only AVCHD will play. However, If I embed them in VLC Player, they will play. Is it possible that the MP4 codec is missing or what would be you consensus here? This started after I lost my browser. The Speccy report was taken after I performed a recovery. The first recovery 'failed' on the third disk, yet on the second installation, Windows 7 was installed but 'Not Updating'.
