Facebook and Instagram users worldwide have been logged out of the sites and are having trouble logging in, receiving errors that their passwords are incorrect.

This outage started less than an hour ago and affects people worldwide, including the USA, Europe, and Asia.

Downdetector, a website that tracks when online services stop working, has received numerous reports indicating that the outage is not isolated to a specific region or country.

The outage has caused people to automatically get logged out of Meta and for Instagram to no longer work, giving errors like "Couldn't refresh feed."

When logged out of Facebook, users are being shown a message stating, "Session Expired. Please log in again."

When attempting to log in again, Meta incorrectly says that Facebook users' passwords are wrong. This has prompted many to attempt resetting their passwords to regain access, only to find that it doesn't solve the issue.

Consequently, this situation has left some users worried that their accounts might have been hacked.

Similarly, some users also run into an error when trying to access Instagram, stating, "We couldn't connect to Instagram. Make sure you're connected to the internet and try again."

In a statement, Meta confirmed outages across all its services: We are aware of an issue users are having logging into our platforms. Our engineering teams are aware and are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Update 3/5/24: Meta services are now back online but the company has not shared what caused the outage.
